Seeking help with master bathroom remodel

My first post here. Grateful for the inspiration from a lot of the ongoing discussion threads. Would love some guidance on how to proceed with our master bath remodel in our recently purchased 2 bedroom condo.

Attached pictures of the current master bathroom. The terrazzo shower base looks like it was totally neglected - stained and cracked. Ideally we would like to take it out. Not a big fan of the large square floor and wall tiles. Thinking of leaving the vanity (60 by 22 size) in as it seems to be in good shape? However it is lower than the standard height. Open to suggestions though. Definitely not a fan of the lower round toilet - would like to change it. Looks like we are looking at a full reset. Pictures included for reference.

We pulled out the carpets in the master bedroom and planning to go with LVP or engg hardwood in a lighter oak/maple color to match the rest of the living room.

So my ask is, would love some ideas/recommendations on the vanity, tiles for the bathroom, shower floor. I don’t suppose we can make any major changes with the current layout. Please excuse me if I have missed any details in explaining our bathroom layout/dimensions - I can provide more details if required.

First question is always "what's your budget"? Other than the stained floor, nothing appears really wrong that styling won't help. So you may be able to achieve an attractive space without spending the world.

See if you can have that terrazzo professionally cleaned and sealed. If that's possible, it's likely the easiest solution and will save a lot over the cost of replacement.

The floor tile and vanity are cool neutrals. Replacing them doesn't make much sense unless they are broken. But the paint in there is a warm neutral and clashes terribly. Consider a pale blue or light grey.

Consider adding more lighting. Updating the towel bars and existing lighting fixture/fan would help too. Then buy some towels that are a dark version of whatever paint colour you chose. That will add a bit of necessary contrast

Remove tub and put shower there. Remove vanities and put double sinks in an "L" where right wall is and where old shower is. Put a door to closet located on right, where the current vanity is, and close off other door. Move right wall of closet on the left to abut/share the wall with the closet on the right. Add a door to where the current left vanity is, to access your new exercise room. The benefits are that you wouldn't have to so a whole lot of plumbing modifications since the shower would now be where tub is, and vanity would now be where shower was (or at least close by).

Yes agree with Sophie that plumbing moves and how far will add $$$. But I would far rather have inexpensive porcelain tile, and a great layout ..........than luxury finishes w/ layout "settled for". Bear in mind, CONTRACTORS differ. What may be an arduous task to one, is not to another. A contractor armed with a very skilled plumber sub can often solve issues at less expense than anticipated. Maybe your contractor doesn't like the idea of STRADDLING a couple of joists on an opened floor, getting pitch and soil pipe relocated, without wrecking a ceiling below and using a couple 45 degree elbows. At least further investigate, would be my advice. I have moved them ( loos) further than that ! An additional 10k expense over ten years is a grand a year for great vs. "meh" or inconvenient.

Thanks for the additional comments! There really is no room to make the door wider as the 2 closets are adjacent to the bathroom (basically there is a short hall from the bedroom with walk-in closets on each side. The bathroom door is basically as wide as that hall will allow (given 3.5" trim on either side of the door). I'm not sure about removing the water closet - guessing my husband would not approve :). However, I will not rule it out. I just would not want it to negatively affect resale down the road (all houses in the neighborhood have the water closet). I actually have a vanity mirror attached to the wall from the previous owners - I really don't wear a lot of makeup so don't really use it. Mascara, blush, eye shadow - that's it! I"m torn about the free-standing versus drop-in tub. I really love the look of the free-standing but I'm leaning towards the drop-in due to the various pros/cons listed in various threads. Thanks!

I can help with the 'look' of the bathroom. Bathrooms (and kitchens) are allowed to have their own design concepts. They can be thought of as distinct rooms and do not have to follow the rest of the home (colour/tone wise). If you go with vinyl, go with something that looks like a DIFFERENT stone than the marble-look porcelain. Do NOT use a wood-look. You have wood in the bedrooms so you do NOT want to have faux wood up against real wood. Options could be: slate-looking vinyl on the floor (a dark gray/blue floor) to set off the gray in the marble-look tiles. Slate looks FANTASTIC up against wood. There you go. All done. As for the hardwoods, you want to decide TODAY about the colour you want to work with TOMORROW. It makes things SOOO much easier to deal with. This is where most homeowner/designers get caught. The bathroom design can prevent (if not thought out carefully) the homeowner from getting the wood-colour they want. A bit of thought NOW about what the wood will look like TOMORROW is going to go a LONG WAY in keeping harmony in the home.

Thank you so much Jennifer for taking the time to respond and offering these suggestions. We did consider getting the floor “refinished” we got quotes anywhere between $500 to $1500 to get it cleaned, grind/hone, seal. At that point we started thinking of a full remodel of the tiles/shower to a more contemporary look.
Definitely planning to change the paint in the bathroom - we were thinking of a white shade (Greek villa by Sherwin Williams) but I like your idea of a pale blue/grey too. I didn’t know about the warm/cool neutrals but just had an instinct that they very much clash.
The vanity is in good condition - just needs a coat of paint inside the cabinets.
