Find out what inspires action and which types of pros are hired, according to the 2019 U.S. Houzz Bathroom Trends Study
Sometimes a master bathroom’s design can drive a homeowner a bit nuts — whether the offending element is style, function or both. But even more important than that is finally having the money to do so.

Outdated Looks and Functional Problems Are Pet Peeves
The bathroom’s old and outdated look is an annoyance for most renovating homeowners (59%) upgrading their master baths, but respondents also cited functional inconveniences as an irritation. Thirty-eight percent were annoyed by small showers, 37% by insufficient storage and 29% by inadequate lighting. Limited counter space (28%) and poor ventilation (27%) also grated on the nerves of some renovating homeowners.

Homeowners Increasingly Hire Bathroom Remodelers
Eighty-three percent of renovating homeowners hire a pro to help with their master bathroom remodel. A general contractor is the most commonly hired professional (46%), but homeowners are increasingly turning to pros who focus on bathrooms. Twenty percent of renovating homeowners are hiring a bathroom remodeler in 2019, compared with 17% in 2017. Similarly, 14% are hiring a bathroom designer now, compared with 12% two years ago.
The 2019 U.S. Houzz Bathroom Trends Study gathered information from 1,360 registered users of Houzz who reported that they were homeowners age 18 or older who had completed a master bathroom remodel or addition in the past 12 months, were currently working on one or were planning to start one in the next three months.
