10 inches in roughly 24 hours. Roads are flooded and high-water rescues necessitated. My Dad texted me this morning and said he was fearful, watching the water level rise on the side of his house. Thankfully it subsided, as has the rain. For now. I can't wait to drive home this evening, and can take my choice of a freeway that is already backed up, or side roads that are likely to be ponds in places.

We rejoiced when the rain began to fall, but it's certainly been traumatic for many, and that saddens me.

My area hasn’t had any flooding, but it’s bad in Dallas. A reporter rescued a woman trapped in her car, I saw cars completely submerged, just saw homes and even loft apartments flooded.

I’m so thankful for the rain, but certainly not getting too much.

The drought has uncovered more dinosaur tracks at Dinosaur Valley State Park in Glen Rose, Tx.

We go hiking there often, it’s a great park.

In Dallas I lived on the 2nd and 3rd floor of a condo along a creek (not Turtle Creek). After one especially bad rain, I was glad I was upstairs! It came up on the lawn 6' from my downstairs neighbors' patios. Today, I imagine the downstairs neighbors ran upstairs!

Very cool tracks! My aunt and uncle live in Glen Rose, and I need to head out there soon for a visit and a hike!

In 2015, it rained like crazy in DFW, and I will never forget driving alongside the banks of the Trinity River just outside of downtown Fort Worth and watching it churn with actual whitewater rapids. It was a pretty incredible and most unusual sight. Heavy rains can just do bizarre things in cities.

I’ve had a scary and dangerous flood experience. When I was 20, just back from living in Europe, I worked on the ranch of a very wealthy family just south of Fort Worth. Two story home, several barns, outdoor arenas with stands, horses and cattle … including draft horses (Percherons) and very expensive Quarter Horse show horses. This place was featured in magazines.

We got a panic phone call early one morning to get out there, the place was flooding.

We rushed over, and couldn’t get to the barns. News and police helicopters were flying over and emergency personnel were arriving with canoes.

My late husband was filmed from above rescuing the livestock, and was on the evening news. He had to get halters and ropes on each animal and swim with them to safety. Horses are good swimmers. I remember him saying one of them, the most prized showhorse, was almost too tired to keep on and kept going under. But he helped her and she made it. :) Thank goodness we didn’t have any colts or calves at the time.

All animals were saved …. including several cows that were washed over to nearby farms.

The flood destroyed everything: tons of equipment, all heavy iron fencing (acres and acres) were bent over, arenas gone, tack ruined, vehicles/horse trailers ruined, large gas tanks washed away, tons of hay/grain gone, the first story of the mansion completely under water, very valuable carts and buggies (we did draft horse events), and on and on. Clean-up was an absolute nightmare and took months. The water line left in the barns was almost to the tops of the doors and stalls.

The ranch was built on a 100 yr flood plain … and it had been nearly 100 yrs since the last one.

It’s very gross, too, in a flood of that level. There are lots of nasty things floating around. Plus the danger of not knowing what’s under you as you’re wading through the water. It’s scary and exhausting.

We got some rain but not a lot. But thankfully, the overcast skies have brought temps down a little.

Stay safe everyone! Over 4.5 inches here in about 2 hours, and more to come all week. As usual our drought has been broken by flooding. We received more rainfall in 2 hours than in the last 2 months.

I just drove from Irving (Dallas County) to my home in Tarrant County, fully expecting my "back roads" route near DFW Airport to be a submerged mess. The roads were as clear as if we had just gotten a light rain earlier. I can't imagine where that wild deluge ran off to, but run off it did. The roads were a breeze. So weird!

Glad to hear folks here are safe. It's so hard to get a clear idea of where the problems area, especially when you are in another town. Just about all I've heard about areas is Balch Springs. We've had a little over 3 inches spread out over the last few days outside of Houston (poured as we were trying to finish unloading DS's things off the van), but we are supposed to get what is left of the Dallas area system fed by moisture from the Gulf. Looks like tonight and tomorrow could be heavy for us down here. Our house sits pretty high, so my biggest concern is usually my youngest and his commute.

Wooohooo! High today only 83!!!. But 'scattered thunderstorms' daily for the next 10 days. I'm not exactly sure of what a 'scattered' thunderstorm might be, hope it is relatively benign.

87 for us, high humidity.

At my house, scattered thunderstorms means everyone will get rain but me. 😆
