Jenny, Any update on what you ended up doing? I installed a whole house softener for hard water issues, but I have odor issues (sulfur and chlorine mostly). I'm leaning toward adding a charcoal filter before the softener. We also have RO in the kitchen and wet bars. Also, you could always just have another hole drilled for the RO faucet without replacing the granite slab. If you have an undermounted sink, the new hole is all you need. What did you end up doing?

mike_home: I am not 20 any more and cannot get up in the attic, but I had my lawn guy (a friend) go up and inspect it a few months ago. He is a roofer and is much more familiar with ductwork than I am. He said it all looks good and could be good enough to last another 3-5 years. How does ductwork spring a leak? The connections from the ducts to the vents were all sealed last year. The AC man also went up there last month and said everything looked good. I appreciate your comments, though.

Hello All, I have been reading as many posts as I can about whole house water filters, very helpful! Many are old enough that I wonder if new technology will make them obsolete so I am starting a new discussion. We are building a new house that gets water from a community well. Recently the well has been getting poor test results, most concerning is the amount of arsenic. The well has been flushed, cleaned and many systems upgraded but I think it would be wise if we also added an all purpose system now. I have requested the most recent well test results and may even spring to get my own location tested since the community pipes are old. The house is about 2500 sqft with 2.5 bathrooms and we have a MIL over a detached garage with 1 bathroom. In the meantime, I am researching whole house systems and am leaning towards the kind that last for 1 -2 million gallons. The two brands are AquaOx and Aquasana. (I would like one that is not made in China). I may also get an RO for the kitchen and would probably get one from the same manufacturer. Does anyone want to offer any advice or opinions about these brands or any others? I appreciate your time and attention!

A reverse osmosis system for whole house would be huge and wasteful. Depending on your needs, many install a whole house filter, and then install point-of-use systems. Reverse osmosis for kitchen use is typical. It depends on your water quality.
