bath hardware: is it too matchy matchy?
Comments (5)I think what you have going now sounds fine. I might stay away from the beaded edge on the things you have not purchased yet (excluding the TP holder). A room is more interesting if things compliment one another but don't all match. It gives the eye something to constantly see that is new. Especially in a smaller space like a powder room, there isn't much separation of items. I would look for a soap dispenser in an accent color in the room. The tissue cover could match that, since I am guessing they will be in close proximity ot one another. As for the wastebasket, I think that could be another material (like a woven wicker or seagrass, for example) to bring in some new texture....See MoreIs this look too matchy matchy?
Comments (3)I think it will all work together, the darker floors and the lighter grey counters have enough contrast that I think they will look good together. Can’t go wrong with shaker white cabinets...always a classic. :-)...See MoreToo matchy-matchy rug and painting?
Comments (21)Love all the comments and suggestions, thanks!! Nobody loves my wishbone Hans Wegner chairs huh? OK... I thought the Danish look would fit right in. No? I also thought that getting a beech wood table/chairs in that room would work with the jute rug to continue the natural look. I know some thing in the room may not be ideal together but I am ignoring that. Ideally, I would like the room to look comfy, scandinavian, modern, casual, Bohemian would be great too:) The two-tone table/chairs are not staying, but having them there for now makes me realize I like white/light much better than any dark furniture. I was thinking of getting these two lamps and putting the table lamp on end table in corner, and the tall one behind the other sofa to the right of the TV. OR...do you all think the lamps (that are definitively needed) at the end of the sofas would have to be matching? Thanks:)...See MoreLiving Room Too Matchy-Matchy? How To Add Color?
Comments (58)I think part of what make the shelves feel light and not like built-ins is that they have no side and they extend past the cabinets below them and over the mantle. not sure there's much that can be done about the latter, but to address the former, something anchoring them to the wall could help. Could be literally something anchoring them, like a decorative bracket, or something that gives a vertical feel that gives a feeling of connection with the cabinets below, like the trailing plants that some have mocked up. You could also try something like stacking books on their sides or adding a book end to normally stacked books....See Morek8cd
