If you plan on using the top of your dresser for a changing table (and I highly recommend this - we had the exact same setup with the IKEA hemnes dresser), I suggest you remove the mirror and decor above the dresser. I would remove the mirror from the room entirely - things like glass that can fall & break will just be a nuisance once your kid is old enough to grab onto things. Plus all you will see is how tired you look, which no new mom needs constant reminders of.

Put up some cloud decals on the wall. Etsy is a great place to find stuff like that. We did birch trees and owls, and we got our decals from etsy.

Over the crib - same thing. Nothing within reach. We put in a corner shelf (out of reach), which is where we put the monitor. You can hang some prints - we did 4 small owl prints from Etsy.

I might reconsider the rug unless it's easy to clean and firmly attached to the floor, as there are a lot of fluids that will land on the floor, and the bare floor will be much easier to clean.

What about doing that whole wall in a fun wallpaper? Better than stuff that they can (and will lol) eventually pull off the wall. I always worry about shelves and pictures falling off the wall. How cute is something like this???

can't get more gender neutral with black, white and beige! add interest with natural touches like wood, plants, rich textures. mix in little pops of color here and there with the accessories.

Logistically you might think about where you might plug in a humidifier, monitor or sound machine. Our LO stayed in a bassinet in our room for months before going to his crib in his room. The monitor is actually on the wall, so there isn’t anything on the wall his crib is against. But we have used the humidifier, monitor and sound machine/night light consistently. We have the hatch sound machine and love it.

Depending on what you are wanting to do, some families turn the baby room into a yes space for the baby. So making it safe enough where baby can get into everything. Some families are doing floor beds eventually. This was all stuff I had no idea about and I’m not doing. We are currently in a very small house and don’t have the space for that. But if my baby had his own room, I wish I could do that.

The point about the mirror over the change table is very valid. I have a almost-2-year old and have the same dresser as a change table and had three custom prints framed in a row up there... two of them had to come down over a year ago once he started messing with them.

I think you need a bookshelf in there, both to fill some space and to give your kiddo a spot to store toys and books that she can see and reach. We went with Ikea Kallax for this in our older son's nursery and it's worked really well. I have wicker bins fitted into some of the cubbies and we keep extra diapers, toys he's not old enough for yet, breast pump supplies, etc in higher up bins he can't reach, and then have some toys in lower bins and his his books and stuffies in the cubbies that don't have bins. Or you could look at the montessori-style bookshelves that have all the books facing front so they're appealing and accessible to kids.

Colour-wise you could try introducing some natural wood tones to add a little warmth?

From a practical standpoint, I'd highly recommend investing in a good blackout blind AND blackout curtains.

If you are limited on space, we used the IKEA picture ledges for a bookshelf. We installed 3 behind the door where we put books facing out as @denkyem suggested. It was a great way to use that space. We mounted them low so DD could reach/choose her own bedtime stories once she was old enough. It worked well until she aged out of it around 4.

for neutral colors i love wood and white. its clean and you can always add an accent of pink or blue in the future. i love the idea of having a wood decal with the babys name over the crib. where the changing table is, i would put floating shelves and put some baby books and some cute dolls.

Just mentioning this in case you need any extra storage. A friend used them in the nursery for her new baby.

Also, our daughter did the same thing anj_p suggested with the picture ledges for books. Three shelves with books facing out. Our granddaughter just turned two. Showing me those books is one of the first things she does when we go to their house.
