New Wood DOESN't match old wood
Comments (2)A hardwood flooring expert could probably have given you a seamless match. Boxers is correct about color changes as wood ages, however...if the GC matched species, sawing and grading, I don't understand why your repair would "stick out like a sore thumb"...it shouldn't....See MoreNew spliced in floor doesn't match existing after refinishing
Comments (19)We don't have any plans to put a rug in where the transition area is. The area rug we had in there before was on the old wood side. There really won't be anything covering that space. On the step up area (which you don't really see in the picture), we also had some new wood laced in with the old (from the removal of a pony wall). The wood flooring extends from the end of the tile in the kitchen through the rest of the house. There are 2 boards width plus the step down edge and they actually blend a bit better. I assume part of the problem is the large space. @Jan Moyer - this is a great room, and other than the tile kitchen, the rest of the house is wood flooring (sans bathrooms). The step does suck, but we're living with it. The potential to change the stain on the great room floor would accentuate that there is a level change. There are, what I believe, are sander marks anyway, so re-sanding probably needs to happen. Going with some test stain patches is the best way forward I think. At least we'll have a better idea of what we'll have to live with. I'm just hoping we can get some warmth in the floor color without the more dramatic transition change (it is a bit more than what the picture shows but the picture does demonstrate the change)....See Morenew carpet doesn’t match couch - send back?
Comments (8)Looks really nice to me! I love those colors and it works so well with you have in the room. For me, i might have looked at the next-size-up rug to get the sofa feet onto the rug....but... Have you thought about maybe pulling the sofa forward 6-9" and placing a narrow console table behind it? It would come in handy in a small room. I love the rug!...See MoreOak Wood Trim in Familyroom Addition (doesn't match rest of house)
Comments (7)I wouldn't paint the trim. The disconnect is that your other windows don't have ANY trim but your other baseboards are natural wood, as well. I'd definitely replace the carpeting with a hardwood floor to match your other rooms. I think your pink dining room is rather charming, but would move the china cabinet out of the corner and rethink all of your wall decor - I think the scale and positioning is off. I think a lovely chandelier would suit your dining room more than the ceiling fan....See Morecmendels
