I would like to brighten this room with new paint, furniture and decor

Please start by lowering that TV alot. The center of the screen should be at eye level when you are seated. As for new furniture we need a lot more info , starting with the style you like and how many seats you need in the space .. Sp ics showin gthe whole space and a to scale floor plan showing all windows doorways and where the doorways lead too. You need a wider cabinet for the TV size

It’s a nice room. And I love the mirror over the fireplace!!

I don’t know what color the walls are now, and what direction you would like to go, style-wise, etc.

If you are just looking to brighten the space, here I just added a natural fiber/jute rug - and a more substantial lamp, with a whiter shade plus a touch of gold.

It would be good if you can possibly lower the tv down - closer to your console. You have a large tv; so proportionately, a console that is a bit wider would probably be good. But I really like your current console, and honestly I’d just keep it. It can definitely work fine with your tv. And since the Houzz *tv console police* will not be showing up at your house - - I would really not worry about any. of. that ! :)

Not sure which direction to go for coffee table - If i do a wrought iron book case should the coffee table have wrought iron? Or can it match the side tables what will have silver bases? Also, not sure where to look for similar dining table as one pictured above, but need dimensions to be around 5ft long and 3 ft wide - with bench to match! I found great options by sizes available are too big!

The closet is pretty well organized with winter coats, boots. Gloves. Etc. My kids struggle to not leave shoes in front of the door, so I think hooks and a bench is the only way to go for now. I’m home and measured the LR. The hallway is tile and the LR is hardwood. There’s a transition strip between them. The hall is 6’ wide. The LR is approx 22’x13, I’m not counting the hall in any of my measurements. I measured the space between the bay window from the beginning of the transition strip. There is 7’ of wall space to the left of the window and 6’ to the right. The opening for the DR is 9’. The fireplace, next to the opening is 5’ and the wall from the end of the fireplace to the hall is 8’.

Main traffic pattern in from kitchen to bedroom which goes right in front of fireplace . the comfort chairs id like seem like they will be to crampled . the layout is really a nightmare because every corner is open to another area . i have been thinking about getting rid of the entertainment center. we debating moving tv. have discussed putting tv on wall behind the gold chair as there is less traffic in that way. the paint is looking gold but its much softer . painting is a not in this project maybe in summer

I would look for a rug or art for over the FP first. That will give you colors to look for in the furniture. The art should be no wider than the firebox (the mirror is too large). The TV is too high for comfortable viewing. Lower it and get a TV console that is 25% wider than the TV.

What are the room's dimensions?

Unless you are going to change your fireplace surround, the surround and your floors are the fixed elements once you remove everything else. The surround looks creamy and the floor slightly gray. Blue would work with those colors. If this room is open to another room you should also be considering what colors are in that room as well.

I think looking for a rug first is a good idea. Most furniture stores will have sofas available in about a dozen solid colors so you should be able to find one that goes with the rug. Measure what you have currently before going to the store and think about whether it is the right size for the space. This is your opportunity to get something larger or smaller if that would be an improvement. If you're able to patch the hole in the wall when moving the TV, definitely move it down or just put it on a new console. Pick your wall color last as there are hundreds of different paint colors to choose from. You will have plenty of time to paint while you wait for your new furniture to arrive.

With your angled fireplace, I think four chairs might work very well should you decide to replace your furniture. A round rug would elimate the odd angles a rectangular rug makes with your fireplace.
