My poor little impacted kitty - not pretty
Comments (23)Thanks all. I will extend your sympathies to little Bear. She seems to be doing a little better today. At least the wheezing has stopped. She has antibiotics to help settle her stomach. When I gave it to her she started foaming at the mouth. I got scared. I managed to grab her and a towel and kept wiping her down. At least she didn't throw it up. I opened a can of tuna for her and poured just the juice in a bowl and she lapped some of it up. I tried mixing mineral oil with her dry food, but she turns her nose up to that too. She really isn't eating at all. She loves water, but she hasn't been drinking water now either. The vet said that was the only thing that kept her hydrated. When I weaned her off the LF to the DVP I started her on the Duck and Green Pea formula. Since she liked it so much I thought I would give her a variety and bought the mixed ingredients for her. That seemed to be the start of her problems. Mixed ingredients contain lamb, green peas, oatmeal, chicken, beef. The vet thinks she was allergic to something in the mixed ingredients and that is what caused the problems she is having now. I am hoping that once she gets over the trauma of being hospitalized and her stomach settles she will start eating again. I am going to stop on the way home from work and buy her some baby food. My problem is if she isn't eating I can't get any fiber into her. I am afraid once she starts eating this may happen again. I don't think she is having a problem smelling the food because when I made chicken last night she came in the kitchen crying for some, but then she wouldn't eat it. She tried to eat some, but she was gulping air when she tried to chew it. Thank God my son is home, and my daughter is over to stay with her today. They are going to call me if anything changes. I watched her like a hawk after her first episode, and took her in almost immediately when she started showing signs of distress this time. It's like she wants to eat but can't, or she is scared to eat. She has lost weight in the three days since this started. If she doesn't eat soon I am afraid she isn't going to make it. Comments (36)Hey Blondboy- I have found with just one layer of solar pool cover over my glass greenhouse, the sunlight is barely cut down at all. I have geraniums blooming inside, no internodal stretch, in fact have a succulant I've owned for 5 years flowering profusely for the very first time. From a base temperature of 50* (from small eclectric heater) the greenhouse warms up to above 85* everyday that we have sun. It would get much warmer but I have an automatic roof vent in the ridgeline (my building is quite tall) Even on cloudy days it will get 60-65* inside. It didn't get that warm on cloudy days last year, without the pool cover and lost its' heat very quickly once the sun started to slide down the western sky. Now that heat is held many hours after dark until the heater finally needs to come on for my setpoint of 50*. I don't know how many mil the pool covers are but they are quite a heavy gauge, fairly stiff to handle. One thing I've also done which I neglected to mention in other posts, is to seal around every window with a removable caulking to seal out drafts. This caulking is available at HD. It's clear and sets up very flexible and strips off very easily in the spring. All my windows on the north side and east/west endwalls can be opened in the spring for ventilation, in addition to doors in both endwalls as well. I've put weatherstripping in the doors and rolled up a piece of burlap to act as a draft dodger on the floor. The only downside of the strippable caulking is that the fumes right after applying it are HORRENDUS! Could get you higher than a kite! :) I caulk everything while the weather is still fairly mild so I can leave the doors open for a couple days to air the place out. Hasn't seemed to hurt any plants....See MoreI miss my kitty
Comments (19)I know just how you're feeling and please accept my sympathy. I had a cat suddenly go into renal failure in the spring of 2005. She was fine and then she wasn't. She didn't eat her wet food on a Sunday and I called the vet on Monday and took her in. She was a scared feral who loved only me and I was the only person who ever held her. So imagine how bad I felt leaving her there. She was in the hopital till Wed. afternoon when my vet called and said she needed to be euthanized since she was in 80% failure. I went early and when they brought her in , I spent 30 minutes hugging her and petting her. Her fur was wet with my tears. She was scared but was so happy to see me and I held her the whole time the vet injected her. As morbid as it seems, I even took pictures of her before she died. I brought her home and buried her in my yard along with all the others and made a white cross for her. People who don't have that special animal bond really don't get it, but all of us here do. Take care. It will always hurt but just a little less with time....See MoreReady to start looking for a companion kitty
Comments (174)I've thought about a catio or taking him on a lead. He had a screened porch at his foster home. Little girl is extremely high strung and I don't see a harness working for her. There are those harnesses that are like a vest and pretty secure. But maybe he would do it. We just have to be super careful with the doors. Both of them get Revolution....See MoreLindsey_CA
