Close encounters of the wild kind
Comments (18)Maureen, I am glad you and the furbabies are safe after your encounter with the bobcat. I did get a chance to watch one for about 20 minutes this fall in the forest until he winded me and then slowly slunk away. I was struck by his grace and wild beauty. My next encounter of the wild kind was about a month ago, also in the forest, with a mother bear and two cubs. The wind was in our faces so the mother bear didn't smell or notice us until she was about 50 yards away. When she did finally recognize us she hurried away with her cubs following. My latest encounter was three nights ago in the early evening when Dave and I were sitting on our couch watching TV. We heard a loud crash outside the window behind the couch. I stepped out on the back screened porch and flipped the lights on. About 5 feet away from the porch was a bear with my bottle of fish emulsion in his mouth. It was hard to say who was more surprized, me or the bear! About this time Rosie, the wonder dog, decided to join me on the porch. She spotted the bear and let out her best hound dog bark and the bear took off! Unfortunately he didn't see the fence and hit it going full stride! The bear bounced back into the yard and rolled before gaining his feet and going over the fence this time! I now have a 4 foot fence that is only 2 feet tall and am short one bottle of fish emulsion! The reason I tell you these stories is because I wanted to show that most wild animals, given the chance, will flee before fighting. They know we humans are bad news and would just as soon avoid us if they can. I agree with Felix, some day your encounter with the bobcat will be a fond memory. Most people who live in Florida have never seen a bobcat and probably never will. That makes your encounter special, tho no less frightening! nova...See More28 year old drama...
Comments (12)myfampg, How horrible! My DS21 finally met his bio donor when he was 18. When he was 16, the dentist found a tumor in his jaw & he needed surgery ~ we thought he was going to lose that part of his jaw & maybe deform his face. I contacted his father & at first he agreed to do a DNA test because he wanted to make sure this was his kid before he got concerned or involved. He scheduled the test but cancelled the day before & hired an attorney. I took him to court & got the court to order the DNA test. The results came back the day after my son was 18. He tried to get the case dropped because my son was no longer a minor but the Judge gave me back support anyways because I filed the case when he was 16. (actually, I filed a case when he was 2 and merged them so it would have been a lot of back support owed.) The stupid thing is that I was not after money... I wanted him to care. I wanted him to come to the hospital & be involved with his son. In the end, the only thing I could force was proving he was the father and making him pay back support. My son attended the hearings after he turned 18, so he knew what his bio donor was saying to the court. A few months after court, he sent my son a few expensive gadgets & met for lunch a couple of times... but he couldn't help himself from telling my son that the reason he wasn't involved in his life was because I kept him away... it was all MY fault. It really makes me sad & sick when parents rewrite history. I mean, we all probably remember things in our own light... but to completely rewrite what never happened is horrible. It's even worse when a child that grew up with a parent that sacrificed and did so much for the child because the other parent was a deadbeat, and that child is so desperate to have a relationship with the deadbeat that they throw the sacrificial parent under the bus. In my opinion, it doesn't matter why he left. It doesn't matter if your mom did this or that.... she did what was important & that is, she raised her kids. He didn't. End of story. He left two families, she didn't leave any. She could be the town tramp... but she stuck around and maintained her responsibility to her children & that's more than he did. (and no, I do not believe she did any of what he said... and I can only imagine how painful it is that your brother would entertain the thought) But, that's his problem, not yours....See MoreCelebrity Encounters
Comments (58)I met many celebrities in a job I had in the theatre business during the 70's and 80's, when the stars finished their London or Broadway run, and toured with the production, to other cities. 'Star' cast members usually have clauses added to their 'green room/dressing room' contracts, that fulfill any personal requirements they demand. Shortly after arrival, I'd meet them to get their signature on the green room contract, and occasionally for a future signature, if a new issue arose that needed amendment. Some were a short 'greet and sign' while others could be chatty. Many of them are now deceased, and I won't include more personal opinions, such as being slovenly unhygienic, or 'fidelity challenged' (only one listed here, but I knew of several 'stars' who clearly 'dabbled when they travelled.') I'll just refer to my impressions regarding any short conversations I had with them. I know I'm forgetting many, but these ones are perhaps most well known. Yul Brynner- articulate, outrageously arrogant, boorish...(one specific memory is that his dressing room had to be repainted 3 times, until he was satisfied with the shade of 'chocolate' brown.) Peter O'Toole - intelligent, vulgar Richard Harris - gregarious, warm Laurence Olivier - surprisingly soft spoken, considering his forte was acting Katharine Hepburn - gracious Audrey Hepburn - sweet, polite, elegant Elizabeth Taylor - funny, loud, brash Richard Burton - same as Elizabeth (I guess they were too much alike) Rex Harrison - charming Maggie Smith - lovely, impeccable manners Vanessa Redgrave - kind, warm Julie Andrews - same as Vanessa Christopher Reeve - congenial, chivalrous Margot Kidder - rudely presumptuous Liberace - humourous, generous, stubborn...See MoreAn interesting (irritating) encounter
Comments (75)A couple years ago I was in line at the market. The woman in front of me was just buying a greeting card and was holding it in her hand. I started putting the items in my cart on the counter. The woman took her left arm and swept all my items off the counter onto the floor. She glared at me and said, "WAIT YOUR YURN!" Everyone kind of froze in place, then another employee came over to help me pick my items up. That made the woman more angry, but she paid for her card and left. There are some real nitwits out there....See Morecarolb_w_fl_coastal_9b
