Have you ever met any celebrities?
Comments (55)Gardenspice, sorry this is so late, but I never saw your post! We had a "friend" who was going through a rough patch with his wife and he had just lost his job. They only had one vehicle and I offered to loan him my green '97 Sebring Convertible to use whenever he wanted,we have three cars for the two of us, so it wouldn't be a hardship to us. After about a year I offered to sell it to him for $2500, we drew up a promissory note and we both signed it in April of '09. I gave him two years to pay it off, $100/month for 25 months. In October of that year he hadn't paid a dime and I filed an addendum to the original Promissory note because he hadn't paid per the contract. He skipped town and moved to Indiana with my car without making a single payment. I found out where he worked and had him served at his work with legal papers for the money. While the filing was happening, I called several shows, Judge Alex was the first to call on a Tuesday, the show was taping on Thursday! But when they got us there within days (which is why a lot of people aren't prepared when they come to court). I totally thought it was a joke until I went to the courthouse and they confirmed that a guy had been in a few days earlier to look for my file. I was called on a Tuesday and flew out Thursday morning. They flew me to the FOX studios and had a meet and greet with my handler and given $35 cash for spending money for the night. They also provided a hotel room. They flew me in but not Jim, who really wanted to be there, drove the 6 hours or so to meet me there. The next day they were taping and did my hair and makeup and fed me about 6 Red Bulls to get my emotions rolling, but I don't get upset easily, so the script they wanted me to say I flubbed up so bad it was left on the cutting room floor. How these court shows work is that the people really ARE real, and Judge Alex dismissed my case without predjudice, which means I can resue him when the two year Promissory note was cleared. We were each given $150 for our appearances and up to your state law for the car (mine happened to be $2500. Now, at least on JA's show, the money comes from the the network and goes to the winner and the defendant would have to pay nothing to me. But could he keep his big, fat mouth shut he would have gotten off scott-free and would no longer be required to pay me anything. But the dumbass waved the Addendum to the judge and screwed himself out of $2500. The two years went by and voila! There was a cashiers check from the weasel. I am glad it is all over, but I miss my Green Machine, I hated to see it go....See MoreI just ran into a celebrity acting not so....
Comments (7)DD use to work in CA at Pyramid Lake near Los Angeles as a state employee. They film alot of TV sitcoms there and she said you cannot believe how rude most of the stars were. Yes it was her job to clean up, and keep the state park clean etc, but they (some of the stars) demanded that she do this, that and many times by state laws she could not do what they demanded. I won't name names, but it sure opened her eyes. There were others that were great and really tried to work with state employees and the public....See MoreYour Dream Dinner Party Docket
Comments (65)One day in LA (my only time there), within the span of about 2 hours, we saw Sean Hayes in a diner. I stood 2' away from him while I waited for the (single, unisex) rest room -- DH was in there and when he opened the door I pushed him back in, closed the door, and said much too loudly I'm sure, "OMG you'll never believe who's right outside this door!" I was a babbling idiot. Then we walked down the street to a Starbucks. My DS, who was probably 18 at the time, was standing in line for the rest room behind the musician Ryan Adams. Maybe two months before this, we had taken DS with us to a Ryan Adams concert in Boston, so he recognized him right away. When Ryan came out of the men's room and handed DS the key, DS chatted with him for a few minutes. Ryan was really nice to him. I was outside and knew nothing until DS2 came out to tell me what was happening. I ran in, again like a big idiot, and stood watching while Ryan got a straw for his iced coffee, then I went back outside to wait for him, fully intending to ask him for a photo, but he escaped out the back door. So sad. THEN, in the next store we visited, we saw "Janice" -- Chandler's girlfriend from Friends. This may have been the best day of my life. I am a total dork about celebrities (in case you can't tell). I love, love the singer Lori McKenna. Maybe no one here has heard of her but she is local from MA and does a lot of performing and song writing in Nashville as well. We have seen her in concert probably 12 times. She plays a couple times a year at a very small concert venue in the Boston area, and we always go. The first time I spoke to her it was because we, and our friends, were among the last to leave and Lori came out from backstage to get her guitar. My friend asked if she would take a pic with me, and she did, and we chatted for a minute. The second time I met her, it was at the same concert venue, and I had brought a CD for her to sign. After the show, I managed to be standing right in front of a door she was coming out of, and I asked her to sign my CD. She said 'yes, but a bunch of people are about to come out of there (the concert area), so come with me' -- she grabbed my hand and brought me backstage. She signed my CD, then had her DH take a bunch of pics of us. She was super nice....See MoreJubilee Celebration or The Endeavour?
Comments (5)Only grow The Endeavour, so can't compare. Jubilee Celebration's caught my interest repeatedly, but I've yet to encounter it in person. In the 2016 USA Austin catalog, The Endeavour's been moved to the Supplementary English Roses list, page 56, which seems to precede dropping a rose from availability, while Jubilee Celebration remains with the general offerings on page 29. Since a full page photo of massed Jubilee Celebration appears opposite The Endeavour listing, I'm best guessing The Endeavour is scheduled soon to be "superceded" by JC. It may be one of the roses Austin's requiring be dropped as a condition of continued licensing. My original was purchased locally as a grafted & potted Weeks' rose some years (8?) ago. The graft showed signs of punking out two years back, following a typical lifespan of Huey grafted roses in this garden. Unwilling to do without TE, ordered a gallon own root then from Heirloom, who no longer carries it on their website. (Dug & deep potted the failing grafted to encourage own rooting in hopes of saving the scion & luckily that worked. Grows equally well own root here.) So if you're interested in The Endeavour, you may want to get one while the getting's good. http://www.davidaustinroses.com/american/showrose.asp?showr=4342 I'm continually wowed by The Endeavour, rating the fragrance an 8 out of 10. Rapid repeat bloom continuity, each flower lasting well with multiple shadings that morph enchantingly from bud to petal fall, as if a new rose each day. The blooms open on the salmon side of coral pink, with tints of amber & apricot that increase as the flower expands & then becomes overlaid with lavender, unique & exquisite. Tend to be larger here than HMF's average, easily 4-5", though the bush has only grown 3.5' tall & wide without pruning. Short, thin thorns, sparsely spaced, so good near a walkway where it doesn't snag passersby. Powerful fragrance to my nose, like a fine French perfume, rosey with notes of narcissus & sandalwood & hints of gingery cardamom. Nose deep in a blossom, feel suspended in time. Parentage listed as seedling x seedling, suspect Aloha '49 somewhere in its background. Rarely spots on lower leaves only & when those are removed, new ones grow back cleanly in this no spray hot & humid garden. Appreciates a bit more in the groceries department, loves the heat of Summer yet continues to bloom in the cool days & cold nights of Autumn, petals unfazed by frequent rain (though nod when soaked), grows in a graceful leafy bush form. Semi glossy leaves, not the matte that HMF reports. Searching the forum for The Endeavour posts, found this one where Marina/the_dark_lady compares it to Jubilee Celebration. http://forums2.gardenweb.com/discussions/1605970/austins-the-endeavor?n=9 Marina has photos on HMF of both roses & hers of The Endeavour look like mine. http://www.helpmefind.com/gardening/l.php?l=2.41588&tab=36&qn=1&qc=0 Compare those with her pics of Jubilee Celebration. http://www.helpmefind.com/rose/l.php?l=2.37260&tab=36&qn=12&qc=0 More photos of Jubilee Celebration from this forum. http://forums2.gardenweb.com/discussions/3841321/please-post-pics-of-your-jubilee-celebration-rose...See Moremamatoad
