Do you like it when tv characters turn out to be a couple?

I'm currently watching a Cdn tv show filmed in Newfoundland called Hudson and Rex. The scenery is striking, but the show is so-so. I'm mainly watching it because of the dog. It's a detective and his German Shepherd partner.

For filming in Nfld, I've yet to hear a local accent. Canadian actors out of Toronto etc are in it, but you'd think they'd be able to get a local person to do something for authenticity. Plus the Newfie accent is just so cute.

Anyway, you can see within the first couple or 3 episodes that the main character and the forensic girl are going to end up together. I don't like that. Some shows it works, but they always have back-stories where they're dating other people, but they're inevitably drawn to each other.

These are too boring, no sparks or chemistry at all, but she does look at him with doe-eyes at times. The show focuses on just the few people in the police department, I like sub-plots and back-stories, and leading up to a potential romance.

Another Canadian detective show is much better, filmed in Toronto called Private Eyes. Lots of back-stories but the chemistry is there between the two characters. It has humour and better acting.

Another show where the characters are destined for one another is Magnum P.I. the current one. That one works, too.

I remember on Moonlighting, it was so much better when Cybill Shepard and Bruce Willis had a spark, but didn’t act on it. Once they got together, things went downhill. That’s happened with other shows, too.

Btw, for second I thought that Hudson and Rex were a couple!

I always feel that when long time characters on a show get together, the show is going downhill and they are trying desperately to retain viewers.

Same thing used to happen all the time in family sitcoms. The story started to get stale, they would introduce a cute, sassy kid to liven things up. Never worked though.

Brown walls in bathrooms are tough. It sounds like you don't care for pink...how do you feel about peach? My mom repainted her bathroom, after the turquoise color she loved, looked too cold. Pink and peach are much more flattering, especially when you're putting on make-up. Turquoise is not...I'm guessing the brown isn't very good, either. She chose a nice, soft coral/peach color and she loves it. She only has one small, frosted window, but the color has really brightened things up. I'd start with the new paint. The dark wood will absorb some light, so even with the new paint color, you might need to install some more lighting. Start with the paint color and see how that works. As to the floor, get a few nice big rugs...either white of peach, and use them on the floor. It will warm things up and cover up a little of the tile. If you're trying to achieve a beach, cottage spa...try adding some small wicker baskets for storage, candles, and maybe a few, small, low-light plants. That will make a big difference, too. Peach and green accents will definitely warm up your quartz and dark brown...making them the elegant background you had originally envisioned...but bringing in the cottage side. Hope this helps...and remember, put a thick towel in the tub and stand on a stool, if it helps you reach the areas you need to paint. I actually got a big ladder into mom's little bathroom, when I painted it :)

Could be a sticking power switching relay. I have seen this symptom in several other brands of sets, but I don't recall seeing it in a panasonic. That would be the first thing that I would check. A simple test for this is as follows; remove the back of the set, locate the relay, turn the set on, then back off. Tap the relay sharply with the handle of a screwdriver. Glenda, I don't have a back up either. Years ago there were a couple of night time soaps that I loved to watch, but when mandatory overtime at work consumed my life I had to give those up. Since retiring last year I just haven't watched any series except DWTS the year Emmet Smith won. I watched the beginning of the season last year, but Chloris Leachman was more than I could handle, so I dropped it. From what I've heard, there should be some pretty good contestants on this year. Time will tell. It sure is a bummer when favorite shows are interrupted though. Now, Miss Glenda, you quit polluting your pretty little mind. Surely, there is a way to shut off your water. You need to shut off the water to change washer hoses, work on sinks and toilets, etc. Locate your water meter. There should be two shutoff valves, one in the feedline to the meter and another in the water line leaving the meter that supplies the house. These two valves are needed to change out the meter. In my town, meters are changed out every 10 years for calibration and/or updates. In my state, there is a 3rd shutoff not accessible to the homeowner and it does require a special tool. This valve is buried at the lot line where your supply line connects to the city or association supply. Its at the lot line were city/utility employees may turn off the water without entering your property and do not have to get a court order. About your washer hoses. Trace your washer hose from the back of the washer to its source. Normally, these hoses (hot and cold water) are connected to a faucet or valve and may be behind the washer. A nice installation places these valves above the washer so they can be reached without moving the washer.

I don't think that Magnum and Juliet work at all as a couple. I'm glad I missed the season finale because that would have been painful for me to watch.

I really like Private Eyes and was rather glad that they made a couple on the series finale. You knew that would be an interesting relationship and that both characters would bring something to the relationship. It was a well developed relationship that grew through the run of the series. They also knew the series was ending and so could bring it to a close.

The problem with Hudson and Sarah I find is that Sarah is portrayed as a bit of a weak character and as you say is doe-eyed. I hate it when writers do that to women.

Oh and I do have a life besides analyzing TV couples. LOL

IMO Big Bang Theory didn't suffer when they started coupling up. It added another layer of entertainment.

I do agree some shows fail after the love interest get together. It's like the writers didn't know how to proceed and develop them as a couple.

It depends on the characters, the writers, and the actors. Sometimes it works, but sometimes it's forced. Sometimes it's better if they don't, but sometimes it could be missing a whole 'nother dynamic by not putting them together. And sometimes there's a great team, without any actual or potential romance.

I think the ones that work aren't the "typical" or expected couples in the show, like Willow and Tara from Buffy, or Glen and Maggie from The Walking Dead. The Walking Dead also had some great non-romantic partnerships, like Carol and Darryl (who were awesome together). Mulder and Scully had an absolutely fabulous relationship, and they never should have gotten together.

jasdip, there are a finite number of different plot and character possibilities in an ongoing story. Someone moves into the area and the group or someone moves out. Two people couple up or a couple break up. Et cetera. In the end, you like the stories and the actors or you don't.

I think it gets tedious when you can tell it was a writers 'inspiration' not a plot plan from day one. Which is why Big Bang couples worked IMPO. I also think it works better when one leaves the show as in Tony and Zeva on NCIS. Never would I have wanted them together working. And I don't think the characters actually would make a good couple to watch. JAG was an interesting mix. It worked for Bud and Harriet--but I think that was always the plan and would never have worked for Mac and Harm. Totally agree on Magnum, I didn't watch it but did catch the last show and it did not work!! It has always worked for Kenzie and Deeks... Chicago Med/Fire/PD has a ton of inter coupling. Seems to have worked over all for that franchise.

Liam & Miley. Rob Patterson & Kirsten. I thought they were great together. Tom Cruise & Penelope Cruz. Hollywood is just too much pressure. IMO When it all falls apart it's sad. (Yeah...I know...they're movie couples not TV)

Arcy - I agree with you on all the couples that you mentioned.

A friend of mine got a new German Shepard puppy about a year ago and her name is Zeva, in honour of Zeva from NCIS.
