Computer monitors are terrible for judging color,

It doesn't really matter what a color looks like in someone else's house. The lighting is always going to vary, plus people don't all perceive color the same. Ever argued with DH about whether something is green or blue? If you're just looking at a paint chip you are not getting enough of the color to be able to tell how it's going to look on your walls. While it can be exasperating to buy can after can of paint samples, there is no other way to know how it's going to look. If you haven't already heard of it, you can buy peel and stick samples at Samplize.com.

If you paint sample sections on your wall, prime first so you're not distracted by the color that's on the wall now, and be sure to apply two coats of the sample paint so it will be the same color as it would be on a finished wall. I have painted three houses top to bottom now, and I can tell you that sometimes (not very often) I have gotten the color right on the first try, but the room I had the most amount of trouble with I think I tried ten colors. For me, the average is 3 to 5 colors. So start sampling! :-)

Thank you so much! I just got back from the paint shop, going to try simply white now. I still am leaning towards the dove wing as I don’t see the yellow.

someone suggested that I not use Dove Wing on the walls with White Dove cabinetry because it would appear yellow. I have Dove Wing on the right and White Dove on the left. I’m not seeing yellow and am wondering if I’m missing something?

Subjective opinion about what paint colors look like are a dime a dozen on the internet.

First question to ask is under what light source? Rhetorical, of course, because none of them can ever answer that question.

Both Dove Wing and White Dove belong to the Yellow hue family. As a result there is no contrast in hue. Which mean neither color's hue characteristic will amplify the other.

If White Dove shows up yellow, it's unlikely it's going to be because of the juxtaposition of Dove Wing.

I’m really not seeing yellow! I’ve painted more pieces and a piece of simply white to compare and to be there’s a subtle difference between white and dove wing. I think I’m going to stick with my original plan of dove wing on the walls and white dove cabinetry.

I just repainted the public areas of my new house in BM White Dove. In certain light it does have a hint of yellow, which is highlighted because I have BM Chantilly Lace trim which is considered a "true" white. If my trim was also BM White Dove, the walls would look "white".

I painted my walls w/White Dove and found it to be very 'dingy' looking. I repainted them w/Simply White. The cabinets were supposed to done in simply white, but since they were a laquer conversion, I believe they went one shade brighter. I'm glad they did.

walls are satin simply white, the crown and baseboard are semi gloss Simply white.

If you have north or east light, I don't think white dove is going to be the best choice. But maybe you like more of a dingy white. Paint some sample doors before you commit.

I tried Dove wing for my open concept kitchen and family room with lots of north facing light. It was very yellow on the kitchen space but much more white in family room.. my trim will be chantilly lace. We quickly changed our minds and reverted to silver satin which we had used in master bed and bath rooms. Silver satin was sooo much nicer. The partial painted walls are dove wing and fully painted is silver satin.

are these walls silver Satin? thx
