update- dining room organization

Hi all! Thank you for all your feedback yesterday. I took the advice and push the two ladders and the sideboard all in one area and I love it. I now have empty space on the other side of the wall that I need help organizing. I’m thinking a cube storage system – but I’m worried that it may look like a second side board(as I’d probably put vases and art on top). Maybe a funky cube shape? I also need a better entry system… Too many shoes around. Thank you!

I don’t understand why there’s a new post either. Best to just post an updated photo in a connect to your original post. That said, does that floor lamp need to stay there? To me, it’s not working. What’s on the other side of the front door? I’d try to find a not very deep closed shoe storage piece that can go where the small table you have now is placed. I would NOT get cube storage for the open wall in your dining room. It’s crowded now. Sort through items and get rid of what you don’t use. If there’s room in a living or bedroom space for closed storage, look into that.

Thank you very much. I figured it would be better to pair back and simplify things. My husband likes the cabinets but I thought about painting them black or grey, if I can't convince him it would be better to remove them completely. Love the idea about the black frame on the fireplace.

I love this story and resonate with it. My father had a black walnut tree cut down on our property in rural Ohio in the late 60's and it was eventually milled into rough board feet. My brothers all took posession of that wood over many decades and I finally ended up with some of it myself. My DH is a woodworker by hobby (his father was a carpenter and cabinet maker). DH used the walnut in a newel post for a winding staircase, he used a thick piece of it in a freeform mantel on a fireplace in our dining room and for my 70th birthday he sent some of the walnut to the son of his old college friend and best man at our wedding who has become a bladesmith and I have an amazing handcrafted knife with an "heirloom walnut handle". No photos to show you of anything, I'm low tech sadly, I will see if he can dig some up and send them to me in digital format for me to share here. I think of my father when I see the wood and understand your attachment to the tree.

I don't know if Houzz sells the ones I posted. I just googled and picked random pics to suggest a style for you. I don't know if you can get covers out of glass that look like shades. Glass covers usually connect below the bulb; shades usually hang over the bulbs because they are lighter weight.

Great start! If the floor lamp stays, is it large enough to dangle over the middle of the table like a chandelier? I think I'd like the painting in the dining room instead of by the door--line it up with the table. Then you have a proper dining room. :)

The shoe thing is always hard. IKEA has a few styles of shoe cabinets. Maybe you can find one that works or something similar: https://www.ikea.com/us/en/p/hemnes-shoe-cabinet-with-4-compartments-white-60156121/

Your entry table is cute but you probably need something that holds stuff (or shoes).
