Pepperdish top is finished

I finally finished the hand applique on Pepperdish. It’s a Judy Niemeyer pattern, 42” square. She has a machine applique technique involving adhesive foundation paper and fabric glue. I tried a sample piece and quickly decided to go with hand applique.

I have 2 tops completed now so I will quilt them before starting another top.

Ooh, Donna, that's quite lovely. I've never tried one of her patterns. Maybe someday. And good for you for being so disciplined and having only two unquilted tops. I had eight once and five this last time. I have the last two sandwiched and am quilting the second to last one now.

I had already bought the Minwax gel stain to try, so I did it on a piece of trim over the weekend (spare piece, not attached to cabinets). I did 2 coats, but it doesn't look very dark. Just stained. If you guys are leaving it on longer, are you just allowing that "coat" to harden enough where it won't wipe off? Does it not scratch easily? Even with the top finish? Hope the OP doesn't think of this as high jacking her thread. I've read the other threads, but still not convinced this is what DD2 needs in her home.

How to trim out/finish off weird intersection at the top of stairs?

Like Seabornman suggested, extending the wall is what I would do. Either the entire length/ run of the wall eliminating the ledge altogether or build out only the problem area at the top of the stairs. Starting at the last step before the landing. Then finish and cap the ledge.

Leathered finish with miter edge + Ogee top + waterfall bottom edge???

Any decorative treatment like that is completely overblown and at odds with the more casual nature of leathered stone. Leathered stone is jeans and a nice polo shirt at a cookout. That edge is a tuxedo at the opera. It needs to be glossy, and in a very traditional setting.

Hi Donna, We're doing ok.....in the process of tossing, giving to family and donating as much as we can.......it's taking a long time. The plan is for us to move in with our daughter when her house remodel is complete. We can't keep up with repairs, mowing lawn, etc but, we're thankful we are not in pain. I'm still sewing, just not very much. :-)
