Hey there - I was going to suggest the schluter edging as well - we used it on a floor, and a friend has it in her kitchen and while I'm not like "WOW! Awesome edging!" I basically don't notice it. It comes in an awesome copper color that blends perfectly into slate... but that's probably not helpful to you! Also comes in brass-like and brushed stainless-like. We used a mix of tile behind the stove and beadboard everywhere else, so wood was already in the mix. That being said, we used .5" x 1" sticks to frame out the subway. I hated it at the time, but now, again, don't really notice it. May not be for everyone, but here's a pic so you can see what I'm talking about - we did buy the bullnose pieces for where the tiles are next to the painted (orange) wall - but needed a transition between the beadboard and tile - bullnose wouldn't have worked well and the tiles and beadboard are different thicknesses, so they didn't make a smooth transition on their own.

Ah, gotcha. I misunderstood. I still do like those rooms and would consider them inspirational, at least partly. I am working around a few constraints for the room so maybe that accounts for the differences? - I need to find a chandelier that has a single round canopy, due to the way our ceiling is. In searching for a chandelier, it's been hard to find something that I think works with the room and has a single round canopy. - I really like the paned mirror in the first inspo room, but I'm looking to put one of those in the foyer. - I would like to find an affordable table that looks like the first inspo pic. I'm searching a local store's inventory for the table and chairs to find something we could potentially really get (and afford) instead of incorporating a picture of the *perfect* table that I don't know the make/price of. - I would also like to use parsons chairs for all of the seats, but I already have two and doubt I'd be able to match them easily to another 6. I think a contrasting chair type would be a better fit because of that. In the second insp pic I like how the room is generally neutral but has subtle color to it. I like the lantern light fixtures in that room but realize they won't work for my space. I also like the artwork in the room and I could use something like in my room in place of the circular mirrors. For my room, I knew I wanted to find a rug with a neutral base that had a few bits of accent color. The accent colors in the rug shown in the mock-up might be more vivid than I pictured in my mind, but I think they work. I also like the idea of an oriental rug that's not so traditional. I hope that helps explain?!? Maybe those rooms aren't exact inspirations. I'm still on the lookout for room designs to help guide me. My unusual dining room doesn't make it easy to compare online dining rooms to my own.

The notch is a transition from outside garage wall to house wall, pretty typical to make the walls match up where it matters most. The exposed wood plate is pressure treated for concrete contact, the plywood is subfloor and nothing wrong with it being exposed in a garage, but not what I would do. Likely this was built per plan. When one wants a garage finished at a higher level, it takes more work and if it gets covered with garage cabinets it is a bit of a waste but I've done it. 1. You could fir out the walls to match - wood strips, more drywall 2. cover the existing wood with more drywall, but it would create a ledge Use rubber base at the floor. It can also go from wall to top of stem walls where that condition is. Epoxy the stem walls where exposed to make it more consistent.

No one will notice that quirky corner unless you point it out. You have seen it and will never be able to truly ignore that spot however,  others will probably never notice.  Even if a sharp eyed visitor looks askance at that spot,  they won't be judging you.  Most every house has an awkward spot somewhere, and stairs are always a challenge. My house has an enclosed stair and one side has a trim piece that is on top of the end while the corresponding  piece on the opposite side is underneath the end. I didn't notice until I was trying to figure out how to install a hand rail. Now that the railing is in place, I don't even see the weird offset any more
