If you want something durable that will stand up to messy kids, you might consider this product: Sunbrella

We've used this for outdoor cushions and they've held up for years in the face of food, wine spills, bird crap, and soggy leaves falling from trees. Make sure you make the cushion with a zipper so you can throw the fabric in the wash, if necessary.

My son watched some you tube videos and ordered some sort of vegan leather to make attached seat/back cushions for his family’s kitchen banquet. Much easier to keep clean. Maybe you could get a piece of plywood cut to fit your bench, some high density foam, and some vegan leather and staple gun yourself an easily cleanable, slide-acrossable bench cushion. It looks like the bench has a little lip around the edge which will keep the plywood back cushion in place.

Etsy. Lots of custom cushion covers are available with washable fabrics. You could also get a performance fabric for easy cleaning.

I think Crypton fabric is amazing. I had living room pillows made from a dark Crypton about 10 years ago and they still look new. Kids and dog. I think many fabrics say to spot treat when you can actually toss them in the machine. And I agree with finding someone on Etsy to make you a cover that can be unzipped and thrown in the wash. Another option is to find any fabric you like and have it laminated. I bet you could even find some already laminated on Etsy.

Oh and yes to Spoonflower too. Our kitchen chairs are covered in their performance fabric. I can’t throw them in the wash but they scrub clean very easily. For us, Crypton and Spoonflower fabrics have performed better than Sunbrella. We have a chair upholstered in Sunbrella that won’t come clean.

You could use a sunbrella outside fabric. They have a lot of patterns to choose from.

Cotton duck canvas should be washable as long as it's pre-shrunk before sewing, and you take care to avoid shrinking when laundering (cold wash, air dry).
