Sherwin Williams Paint Color Help?

Hi Everyone!

I am planning to paint my living room, currently my kitchen and living room are painted a cool toned gray color that can really change in different light (my kitchen has 5000k bulbs and living room 4000k)

I would like to paint the living room a color that is a little bit warmer I’m open to off-whites, and different grey/greige/taupey based colors, but I’m fearful of what the undertones may do to the room. Particularly my couch. The couch is gray, but certainly does have green undertones and I would like to avoid it to look any greener. What undertones should I try to avoid? I’d also like the color to remain complementary with the kitchen color as they are somewhat open to each other. The rooms are posted for reference

What color is one the walls now?

The couch is gray, but certainly does have green undertones and I would like to avoid it to look any greener.

Very pretty, looks amazing with the rug. Obviously in the greens hue family range.

Contrast emphasizes hue so you'd want to stay in the same hue family range as the sofa - maybe counter intuitive but the amplification of color lies in contrast. And you don't want that.

What undertones should I try to avoid?

Here's the thing, colors don't have undertones. Undertones are just someone's subjective opinion about what a color looks like - to them - under whatever random light source there happens to be.

Instead of guessing about undertones it's much easier to use the current color info (if you happen to know what it is) so we know what hue family doesn't work.

That info and the color of the sofa provides direction about what hue family is the right one to shop for paint colors.

Thanks! I’m still trying to decide. Not entirely sure of the color on the walls currently. I think it may be a custom color (The kitchen was painted by the previous owner but the living room was a beige, so I had the kitchen color color matched to carry through the rest of the main floor) but mostly resembles SW 7661 Reflection which is a cool gray-blue color. I’ve been considering several different colors but my thinking is to go with SW 9166 Drift of Mist. It’s a warmer gray color that can present as off-white with a hint of green. I would only be painting the living room this color, and keeping the kitchen the cool blue color (to avoid clashing with the gray-blue backsplash) but I’m concerned about the flow form room to room. Pictured is the threshold to the kitchen, drift of mist samples on the wall, and the two colors next to each other.

Start by priming the gold walls with white or gray primer. The gold reflections will distort the colors of new paint samples. Then change the odd-looking light bulbs to whatever LEDs you are going to use. Paint a foamcore board with the Kilim Beige, then hold it up next to the countertops. The new paint needs to coordinate with the countertops, the flooring and the cabinets. One shade lighter than Kilim Beige on the same color card is worth a good long look. Since the countertops are beige, too, they are likely to be the driver here. Cara Lewis-Watt's pale greens can be sampled on the same foamcore board. Both the SW and BM "Sea Salt" colors are quite versatile. That'd get you out of having to identify the "perfect" off white/beige that goes well with everything else.

Take a look at SW Repose Gray, Mindful Gray and Dorian Gray. They are in the greige family but have a hint of green. With your honey oak cabinets and green countertops I think you would like any of them. The Repose is lightest. We have used it in two bedrooms, a hall and home office. It works great with gray carpet, wood trim and white trim. Good luck and let us know what you decide and for sure show us before and after pics!

I've been looking at high end roofing tile websites and one of them has a color expert that made recommendations for house paint colors with their orange/brown roof tiles. Hello - hard to tell actual floor color from photos but uploaded a few angles to give an idea. Looking for help choosing paint from SW! Think it’s best to do a white vs a gray since floors are light gray. Just don’t know which white would be best. House gets a lot of light. Need help with wall, crown molding, and ceiling THANK YOU!!!!!!! Just don’t like beige-ish whites

I am going to disagree about colors not having undertones. There are two tones in a color: mass tone and undertone. Those tones come from the formula used to mix a color. The mass color tells you right off the bar what the color is, let's say red. Then the undertone becomes evident.
