Questions about Sherwin Williams paint "Mindful Gray"
Comments (7)Oh, that "greige" word. :) No one knows what the hell it means. Just like "undertones", no one knows what that means either. Greige and undertones are words people use to describe how they're personally perceiving color because they don't have a proper vocabulary to speak to color. And most people don't have a proper vocabulary to speak to color because most people aren't crazy color freaks. As far as warm or cool, that's another one that throws normal people for a loop. Most people think you split a color wheel in half and the side with red, orange and yellow is warm and the other side with green, blue and purple is cool. Nope. Warm and cool is a spectrum within each hue. There are warm yellows and cool yellows. Warm blues and cool blues. You get the idea. Mindful Gray belongs to the yellow hue family and in context of - and compared to - other colors in the whole entire yellow hue family, Mindful Gray is warmer. You can see how that plays out on this here color wheel. And I think it's a lovely exterior color because it's not too light, not too dark but of course it all depends on any fixed elements you have like brick, stone, the roof and whether or not Mindful harmonizes nicely with those....See MoreSherwin Williams Extra White Exterior Paint
Comments (11)For those of you with SW Extra White on your house - just confirming Extra White is a bright white, correct? I have seen a sample and it seems to have a bit of a blue/grey undertone. On a house exterior does it just read white? or white with slight grey/blue? Look forward to hearing back on this. Thank you!...See MoreSherwin Williams Paint Matching, are they really all the same?
Comments (186)@Jennifer Hogan We have compared SW's sample for Simply White with the sample we got from Home Depot for the Simply White (that we also have painted on the wall), as well as the trim that is from Kelly Moore (a local store) in Simply White. It "simply" doesn't match (pun intended). Honestly, the difference is so substantial that I can't fathom how they could consider it a match. The cheaper stuff from Home Depot is actually a much closer match than SW even got close to. Kelly Moore is the best match. SW tried today to match it closer and still failed. So, we are going to go back to Kelly Moore and pay a bit extra to get another sample in the eggshell (trim is semi-gloss) and compare it. Near certain it will be the homerun since they got it right on the trim, zero hint of green and all the trim has been painted throughout the house. I do appreciate it though & completely understand. I can even understand certain times of the day seeing more color but there is such a difference that my husband, who rarely notices colors, immediately asked why the walls were green and the trim was not. He thought I had bought 2 different colors of paint completely! It has been quite the saga. Long story short, the best thing to do when dealing with whites is to pick a color of white from the company you are using so that you know you'll be getting exactly what you pick, and not what they 'promise' they can match!...See MoreNeed help deciding Sherwin Williams light gray for exterior
Comments (3)Your house is a lovely shape. 🌞 I do hope you don’t paint your garage doors in black though. I think it would dominate the facade against the paler stone and look like a cavernous, gaping mouth. If you would like the garage to be the focus, then black will certainly do it Were you to pull colours from the stone or mortar then the whole look would have a softer impact. Even a darker grey from the same Hue Family as the stone would offer you, a more subtle finish....See MoreBeverlyFLADeziner
