I like having smaller pieces of bread to pickup. I LOVE it! And, i agree, "... it's quite clever." I'm going to remember this way of cutting a sandwich.

My Grandmother used to slice my sandwiches like that when I was little. Party pieces she called them. It fe!t special. I may start doing that.

The internet - and social media in particular - is populated by a lot of uneducated doofuses. Apparently finger sandwiches - to be eaten in two or 3 bites max - are something they have never encountered.

And to go back to AmyLou's food peeves, what business is it of anyone's how one decides to carve up their sandwich? Do we now have sandwich monitors overseeing our lunchtimes?? These people need to get a life!!

Jas, that takes me back. After my dad got sick and my mother went to work, I spent a lot of time trying to come up with clever lunches for my little brother (and sometimes one or two of his little neighborhood friends). I'd often cut sandwiches into weird shapes - the boys loved that. As for me, I like a sandwich really loaded and it's a lot neater to eat if at least quartered.

So now how we cut our sandwiches is dividing us? Good Grief!

When you cut things in half, such as cake or a cookie or chocolate or a sandwich, the calories fly out of it. Do people not know that?

I don't know if I've ever cut a sandwich into more than four pieces,but I always cut muffuletta sandwiches into equal quarters.

If I am making finger sandwiches, I remove the crusts, but I don't care if someone else leaves them on.

There are hundreds of ways to rearrange these pieces to make a square, but if you give this puzzle to someone who is not familiar with it, it might take them a while to assemble it into a square. One year I made a bunch of these puzzles and gave them as stocking stuffers. Then everyone who got one competed to see who could solve it first. The back of the puzzle pieces were silver, and the fronts were various colors.

Lars - I love that puzzle idea! Must make a few for the grandkids -- they are all long past the age for toys, but giving only $$ offends my personal sense of gift giving (altho none of them ever complain, lol!).

I don't know if that's true but we have 'INFLUENERS' the idea they have an opinion and the internet is full of minds that think they get to decide how we all should think and feel. I knew there's a HUGE faction that likes to debate how pizza is cut--but sandwiches??? Who CARES!?

I like it, I think I'll start doing that from now on...

I vote for hexagons! From now on, because I said so, hexagons shall be the only acceptable shape in which to cut pizza! And they have to be cut, uniformly equal sided with equal angles, not molded or shaped, so that no pizza bones shall pass, and each slice will be identical. This is my first order as your INFLUENCER and all must bow down to my hexagonal will.

Well, obviously it all depends on what kind lf sandwich it is. in the original photo, is that rosemary rye with swiss?

I don't know what kind of cheese it is...looks a little smooth around the edges for Swiss, but the bread looks like what my husband used to call "gravel bread," lol. Whole grain with flax seeds and other bits of healthy things.

My little ones (2, 3, or 4ish) barely ate a full meal on a plate so I started cutting everything in small pieces, especially the sandwiches - triangles, and put the food in several small bowls, even allowed them to use fingers or spoons! They thought it was fun and they ended up eating more than if it was on a plate like the " 'dults eat" with forks and stuff. The little ones now are grandparents and guess how they serve food to their grand-babies?

When I buy cheese slices, I often buy a package of Swiss slices as well. It isn't true Swiss, no holes, but it's a nice melty cheese and is a break from the yellow slices. The point of this useless comment is that's what the cheese in that sandwich looks like to me.

Ah, I get it now about the Swiss. I don't recall seeing non-holey Swiss, lol!

I remember reading somewhere that the way mass produced swiss cheese is made (no capital because it's not from Switzerland) it doesn't form the holes, so they inject it with the right stuff (bacteria, fungi or enzymes or whatever) to make the holes. If this is true, making solid swiss for sandwich slices would be easy. :)

I love this but can't try it with my daily sandwich because the TJs bread is too small. My mother always cut sandwiches on the diagonal and I don't.

I never really paid all that much attention to it until I learned that so many people cut their sandwiches into triangles. If I am using bread with a rounded top, I never cut into triangles, but now when I use Pain de Mie that I bake in my Pullman pan, then I do cut the sandwiches into triangles.

This is on bread that I bought, but I should start making my own rolls for this. I would make them bigger and cut the sandwiches into fourths.

I might try that way of cutting. I prefer triangles (it's the soft edge :-) ) but the new breadmaker makes a large rectangular slice and cutting it into triangles you get some ridiculously large ones.

When I lived in NYC, I liked shopping at B. Altman. I loved their Cafe. I always ordered a pot of tea with their Tea Sandwiches. They were little triangles of cream cheese on date nut bread, tuna, chicken salad and egg salad. Looked so pretty on their china, their tea was delicious. I was so sad when the store closed years.
