Sub Zero / Wolf Appliances poor quality and terrible customer service

HBS, Inc.
last year

We are struggling with the lack of control of the flame/heat on the Wolf gas range top. The unit ignites fine on the high setting, but the heat/flame remain on the high setting as we rotate the control knob through 90% of the allowable rotation before we get a response to decrease the heat during the last 10% of the knob rotation. Numerous service visits from Wolf authorized tech's (tried 2 different tech companies to make sure we cover inexperience errors). When we contact Wolf directly for customer service assistance and they speak to us like we are idiots and this is the first time we ever lived indoors and used modern appliances. There is no way that a gas burner know should hold on high heat through most of the adjustment range and only give a response on the very tail end of the knob rotation range (we are talking 10 degrees of rotation to adjust from high to low). We actually need to move the pot out of the way to see the flame while we micro-turn the knob to get the desired heat.

We get the same scripted response from the Wolf CSR that the flame may look the same height but the BTU's are actually decreasing. after 6 months of actual use with this cook top I completely disagree with that ! So, this cooktop can be used to boil water or low simmer with no options for heat settings in between. We had a Thermador gas range in the last house and it is far superior to the poor quality materials being sold by Wolf/Sub Zero today.

So, for the consumer considering the Wolf/Sub product line please follow along with our experience.

Total appliance package from Wolf/Sub is listed below:

1 Tower Fridge 30" (works fine-motor nice and quiet)

1 Tower freezer 18" (motor so loud it can be heard over the TV in a separate room at 40' away- "the motor sound is normal" was the brush off response we got for Sub Zero. So the quiet motor in the fridge is not normal ? )

1 36" gas range top (my nemesis - see rant above)

1 30" convection oven (works fine)

1 30" steam oven (leaked water from roof of unit until tech fixed it )

1 30" warming drawer (works fine)

1 30" drawer microwave (serviced 6 times in 6 months and still giving us fit's. controls stop working until you reset the power, drawer was getting stuck, inconsistent heating to this day)

2 sets of fridge/freezer drawer units (compressor was bad out of the box on one unit, took 3 months to fix)

2 30" wine coolers (work fine - makes me smile considering the contents ;)

You are looking at over $90k in appliances and the customer service department want's to treat you like you are stupid and this is the first time you ever owned an appliance.

We own a construction trade business working on very high end homes for over 35 years so we know what customer service should be....and Wolf/Sub isn't even close.

Our only regret is that all of these "high end" appliances are built in to the walls and cabinets at the specific required dimensions and there is no way to just swap them out. We are stuck with this inferior product and there is nothing we can do about it besides warn the next person about our experience. Steer clear of Wolf/Sub Zero appliances, they are all about marketing and not so much about building quality product or standing behind it.
