Sounds good in theory. But in practice veggies need a lot more than just a single rinse ime. Then instead of carrying dry produce into the house it would be wet and dripping. Messy. And once rinsed vegetables, particularly salad leaves, won’t keep well. Also you’d be left with a gritty bucket which itself would need rinsing out, thus using more water. So all in all, not as clever as it looks, imo.

I've had one for a few years. And a half dozen trugs---the solid sided harvesters. 3 different sizes. Bugs float to the top and soil falls to the bottom using the collander.

Crops low to the ground get quit a bit of soil splash after a storm. I love it.

Give it a good shake and a big swing i see no mess in my kitchen. Then a salad spinner can give a second rinse and easily dries my greens indoors. I don't want any soil going down my sink drain. Or live bugs inside. Or I can easily transfer to my salad spinner at the kitchen door and leave the big trug with the colander outside that goes back to the garden next visit.

Small farm market gardeners that sell at farm stands and farmers markets retrofit old top load clothing washers to wash and spin greens.

My soil is heavy clay deep, so root crops are dug/pulled filthy. Garlic, beets, carrots, hearty greens, etc.

Quick rinse, not scrubbed, then air dried for storage. They come out of the ground wet/damp, so a rinse and a rub is not a problem.

Every garden, soil, and climate is different but it works for me.

The garden is about to explode, so i keep a few trugs in the garden at all times these days. Just taking a walk early morning with coffee, yikes, --explosion of growth overnight. Best to harvest early morning here when it is cool and damp.

Jasdip, it looks like a better idea than my current method, which is to dump everything on the lawn and spray it with the hose, LOL. I then put the stuff into milk crates, which have mesh type bottoms, and let them drain. I don't think I would do that with lettuces or the more fragile salad greens, but hardier greens like kale would work fine.

As sleevendog mentioned, after a rain things can get pretty muddy and other things are naturally dirty, like beets and radishes. My garden is about an acre, so that much water wouldn't go very far, but every little bit helps, plus it keeps the mud and dirt out of the kitchen and in the garden, where it belongs. Things that aren't particularly dirty, like cucumbers and zucchini and beans and corn, those don't get washed until right before they are used, so they are kept in the milk crates, stacked in the garage where it's cooler, until I need them.
