Looking for flooring stain advice?

I " thought " I was all set " Finally " ...until i woke up & saw the board sample of coffee brown! It looks so red ! I put it next to a board that had " jacobean " stain & I think that one holds more brown! Last pic is " Dark Walnut " stained onto the floor next to the board samples. I'm so torn now that I see all 3 together I think the " Jacobean " actually holds more of a brown " hue" ? I know this is dark & I'd be lying if I said I wasn't scared to do this on my floors ! I know the " Flooring lady" liked coffee best said was darkest I should go bc the others would make my house look like a cave but I just don't like the red in there ? Anyone have Jacobean or Dark walnut? Or know anyone who does ? I have pets too so should I be so nervous?

No opinion on flooring. Just wanted to say "Insurance is paying for it" is no reason for you not to push for what you want. Your insurance is paying because YOU paid the insurance premiums. Probably for years. YOU are paying for it, and you deserve the same level of service as if you wrote the checks directly. And insurance should be paying enough to get you normal customer service, because that's what "replacement value" should mean.

Have you looked into other options other than oil stains? There are other colorants available in the market: water base stains, dyes, reactive stains, hard wax oils and penetrating oils. With the right contractor, your design possibilities are endless. I have suggested using pink blocker. Does your contractor have any experience with it? Has your contractor made any suggestion?

This is all through insurance we had a house fire So the contractor or floor lady had already complained because she had to come out 2 × 1st she tried out Brown's light then I asked for a dark color to try out she said she was not coming out again She's not willing to work with me and it's very frustrating but defrustrating but I don't have any options I feel because because I'm not paying for it my insurance is So I can't be too pushyI feel like I can't be too pushy

Nice shed! Don't think you'll be disappointed with Cabot's product. I used in on our cedar privacy fence (semi) after using Behr for years and having to recoat it too frequently (for me, anyway). Cabot's is holding up much better so I'll stick with it for exterior stains. Especially as far as being water repellent, tho I do get a bit of mold after a long while below north facing horizontal supports, it's nothing compared to what would show up on Behr stain.

I recommend the finish as the only thing on the flooring. You will want to use the highest priced water based finish you can afford (oil based or oil modified products turn orange...which would be a snick lighter than what you have now). You would have the refinisher put down two coats of gloss and then a finishing coat of the matte. That way you have the lower sheen level without the haziness of matte.

Do you like the current color? keep it natural and use a good varnish on the hood cover. keeping it natural: Or, try a walnut stain if you want something a bit darker. Hopefully it will darken the lighter parts just enough to blend in the stripes without darkening the darker portion too much they did the walnut on this hickory flooring these are espresso, dark walnut and jacobean. try it on the back of the hood to see if it works butcher block gets oiling or something like Waterlox.

I believe she's going to use Dorothy Dorothy or minwax which which one do you recommend if she does dark walnut or Jacob bean so I don't have to deal with Orange or golden undertone

Duraseal or minwax is what she had I think she will be doing " Duraseal " p ? I wanted to0 see Jacobean down too but she only did dark walnut n was actually kinda of upset I'd even think of using that ? But I don't like the " orange " tint that comes through w lighter browns so im chaising my tail n back to where I was in from the start which is to go dark bc redoak has pink or orange undertones? I'm wondering before I give an answer if dark walnut or jacobean is best ? I hope I get this right wish sje didn't make me feel uncomfortable about talking w her. Sorry to be impolite but those are about the crummiest samples I've ever seen. There is little difference between Duraseal Jacobean and Coffee, to the extent that I only stock Coffee. Coffee is NOT reddish so I suspect something is wrong with the stain used to make your sample. I generally recommend it to counteract redness in Red Oak since it has a greenish cast.

If your floor person is resisting making samples, offer to pay for the time and materials. Better to do that than to end up with something you don't want and have to live with for many years.

Have you thought about leaving them natural with a matte or satin finish? Easy and beautiful!
