This persicaria brightens a dark corner
Comments (6)Have Persicaria amplexicaulis 'Firetail', which I read described as "vigorous but not invasive". It's not too bad. The one I have recently used extensively is the dwarf P. affinis 'Dimity'. It's a vigorous spreader, but useful ground cover and it's very easy to chop bits off and move them around with a spade. I'm no friend of invasives, but am very enthusiastic about this neat little "enthusiastic spreader"....See MoreDark Corner
Comments (0)Ok, so I'm remodeling my little kitchen in my 1924 Craftsman house. I've decided I want to put smaller, tiffany like pendants in front of each of two windows on adjacent walls, one of which will be over the sink, the other over a counter in the corner next to the range. Over the stove, in the hood, will be a light(s) and I'll have undercounter lighting all the way between the two pendants. That leaves a shorter wall (includes a doorway) where the fridge will be and a new floor to ceiling cabinet where the chimney used to be. I'm going to do a beadboard ceiling to match a small stretch of beadboard along one wall. Can lighting is out, bc there isn't enough room in the ceiling, but even if there was, I'm trying to stay away from too modern anyway. My GC and plumber are trying to talk me into ceiling lighting of some sort, but I'm really reluctant. My problem is that corner where the floor to ceiling cabinet is, first of all, and just generally about ceiling fixture(s), given that the kitchen is so small. I hope I've painted a clear picture. If necessary, I can construct a visual floor plan - tomorrow. Right now, I've had enough wine to make that seem like too big a project. Any input is very much appreciated. Thx....See MoreTract Light For Dark Corner?
Comments (3)I like the wall sconce idea and you could also check out floor lamps that are sleek in design. If you're just wanting to light the corners and not have light for reading, then consider up-lights behind the sofa. I would choose either of the mentioned ideas over track lighting for a corner. Comments (17)cyn: it is in perfect condition, I am glad of that. Funny story too, the owner had me wrap the shades for transport as he didn't want to take any chances, he said ,that I would open them and find one broken. He gave me 2 Victoria Secret bags and a ton of pink tissue paper LOL. It was so funny when I walked out of this little shop with these in my hands. I didn't ask him as I have no idea when I will get back there. oakley: thank you, it sure does fit the era. I love the curve in the top of the secretary, which was Mom's, with the curve of the light . neverending: thank you I am always looking for old things too...they are really better made for sure, in most cases. justgotta: I hadn't thought of that but when we looked closer at it I believe you are right. I sure would love to have seen the light flicker in those shades. vampire: I am not fond of big cities unless they offer something to relieve the "bigness" , the neighborhoods and cleanliness and the lake sure do make up for it. Mom and Dad would be so glad that we spent the time we were there driving for hours and looking up relatives and checking on the old homes where they grew and their parents grew up. val: thank you . I too am so glad that it all worked out. We were only 4 hrs from Chicago and took Hwy 6 all the way from Napoleon OH. It was a great drive and we stopped in Nappanee, where they used to make a great kitchen cabinet and had lunch and bought a wonderful apple pie at the Amish bakery. There is still a factory there that makes kitchen furniture but we couldn't get in. dlm: that is great ! The antique shop I went to is directly across from the El station that has the Dunken Donuts. You walk out and it is in the shade of the tracks across the street. Cool that you are going to Seattle too ! We will be there 5 days . I have never been so am very excited. cooper: we fly direct from Atlanta, non stop. Our DD keeps our truck while we are gone as parking fees are so bad at the airports these days...especially for 6 weeks. She will drop us and pick us up on our return. Yes those shades....I am in love with them. cat: you are a hoot! We will have to look for a treasure when I see you in December...my B'day present ") c...See MoreEmmy Emma
