Getting To Know Us All . . . Let's Do Quirky
Comments (58)1) Part of the country I live in: Florida 2) One quirky/odd/interesting/funny thing about where I live: People leave five open car lengths between them and going through a green light. Two cars get through. Everyone shops out of the middle of the isle. Very few people are from here. We can’t wait until the vacationers leave so we can get into our locals. 3) Two or three quirky things you do NOT know about me: What’s not quirky about me? I don’t like touching door handles going into business, restaurants ect. If I have to I use the up side of my left hand. I do not like it if someone wants to taste my drink. All I can think of is if they flossed or not or what they may have had in their mouth that is now floating around in my drink. I think men who spit in public should need a public stoning. 4) Any weird or funny phobia? No real phobias but I don’t particularly like spiders. 5) Two interesting/funny/ quirky things about my family: Everything my husband is good at I am not. Everything I am good at husband is not. It’s easy to figure out who gets what job during remodels. My husband smells and sniffs everything he puts on. I have two dogs a Rottweiler and Maltese. The Rottweiler thinks he’s a Maltese and the Maltese thinks she is a Rottweiler. All the women in my family are extremely strong willed. 6) Item and age of the oldest piece of clothing I still wear: Nothing I can think of except I collect vintage pins. My DH/SO/Family HATES this item that I love and refuse to get rid of: In my quest for an all-cotton, knee length sleeveless nightgown I couldn’t find exactly what I wanted so bought a Ralph Lauren loud floral print gown. I look like a clown in it but it’s cozy. I can’t recall exactly what he said but it wasn’t nice. He hates my stored paint and wants me to use the same color in every room to cut down of cans in the garage. He hates the tufted headboard I got at a garage sale. 8)Favorite thing to do when I have an hour or so free at home and no one around to bother me and no work. Well I haven’t had time due to renovations but in a few months I’ll have my very own room to sit and paint in. 9) If I could somehow have another career with, miraculously, the college or training already behind me, I would: I’m not sure I could pick one. There is so much to know and learn about with so many things. I enjoy anything creative. 10) If I could live anywhere in the world for 3 months among the locals (other than the country I currently live in now) I would love to live: I love Italy and south west England but am always glad to get back to America. 11) One last quirky thing about me: I am more of a man’s girl than a girl’s girl. But, I am better at being a girl’s girl now that I am older and have had more time to figure out the complexities of women… even though I am one. I still don’t get vagueness. I’m a visual learner....See MoreNew GTKY Kickstart
Comments (52)1. GW member? Since 2007. I found this site while googling reviews of Dacor ovens. I had to switch my login name a few years back when I discovered that my neighbor lurked here and repeated my comments to other neighbors. I never said anything that I regretted but I found her actions a little creepy. 2. Coffee. With Skim Plus Fat Free half n half. 3. What color is your bedroom? Right now it's primed and awaiting our decision on color. 4. Coziest or most relaxing room? My family room with a gas Jotul stove. Good for cuddling, watching TV or reading. 5. Do you garden as well as decorate? I garden and pay someone to help me decorate. 6. Does your décor extend to your outdoor space? It's more like my indoor space is influenced by my outdoors. 7. Fresh or artificial? I grow orchids and there are more than 30 spread throughout the house. When they're blooming I bring them to a more prominent location. Even now after one of the coldest months we've had I have six blooming. 8. Where did/do you splurge in your home? And for yourself? We splurge by purchasing what we want. We research first and then buy - it might be the 2 Sub Zeros in the kitchen or a vintage rug in the foyer. But it could equally be something we found at the local Habitat for Humanity store or at an out of the way 'antique' furniture store that we stumbled upon while on a drive. We look for quality first and then value. For myself? I usually let DH handle those splurges but I did just buy a vintage Hermes scarf - it was a limited release and had a special meaning for me. 9. Lip gloss, lipstick or chapstick? Only chapstick if need. Favorite comfort food? Must I limit it to one? Oh well. Mac and Cheese. What’s for lunch/dinner/next meal? We're having homemade minestrone soup tonight and salad. We had to cancel dinner reservations due to the treacherous ice....See MoreIt's time for a new GTKY!
Comments (35)1. What are you wearing? Describe in detail, please. Suede ankle boots, dark wash boot cut jeans, blue with white stripes wool sweater, my only-wear-around-the-house silk scarf (it’s an odd color so I don’t wear it out and about but it feels so good and keeps my neck warm). I’ll put on a different scarf when I leave the house. 2. What was the last thing you ate? I’m drinking tea right now. The last thing I ate was a piece of pound cake last night. 3. What did you do today? Details, please. Read the newspaper the old-fashioned way, checked my email, started reading here. Later, i’ll go over to my Mum’s and do some more prep for her move. 4. What brought you here to GW/Houzz the first time? Our HHI renovation 5. What was the worst job you ever had? Babysitting. The best part was it crystallized by knowledge that I didn’t want kids. 6. What was the coolest (hip, groovy) job you ever had? I can’t think of anything that was cool about any job. It’s called work for a reason. 7. Have you ever been in a car accident and it was your fault? My BIL was driving and as we entered a curve, there was another car facing us. 😳 Thanks to his driving, we also spun out like they did, but we didn’t hit anything but the curb. All 4 of us had the presence of mind to jump out of the car and get off to the side of the road, because we all expected our car to get hit by the next car or, heaven forbid, a truck. A another car did spin out and hit ours. It wasn’t rainy or icy so IDK why the road was so slick. No one was hurt, but all 3 cars were damaged. The cop said it was the first accident scene he attended where every single person had been wearing a seat belt. I can still recall that slow-motion feeling when the car was spinning out of control. 8. Have you physically hurt yourself lately? If so, what did you do, you klutz? While cutting a pineapple, the fruit shifted (on the juicy, slick surface of the cutting board. Maybe there was a pineapple spill on the road above) and I cut my thumb just a little. 9. Has anything angered you lately? Just little personal things, not world happenings. No. 10. When people come to you for help, what do they usually want help with? Hmmmm...a ride? 11. What’s something you like to do the old-fashioned way? Read books, borrowed from the library, and newspapers, delivered to my home. Write letters. When I need something, I go to a store to buy it. I can only think of 4 times I’ve ordered from Amazon....See MoreA Summertime GTKY!
Comments (27)Do you garden? Flowers, veggies, herbs? I do! I'm a flower gardener. Not bad, but get my "skills" from my Grandmother. I love to piddle in the flower beds. - Favorite Summer flower? hydrangeas -- I love hydrangeas! But I'm having a really hard time getting any to grow at this house. Well, make that BLOOM. I have 2 rather large bushes, but neither have put out blooms. I think this year it's due to the sub-Arctic temps we had. Also, an orange tiger lily that I gathered from one of my Grandmother's home. It's one of those tall things that the hummers & bees like to hang out around. When I see them in bloom, I always think of my Grandmother. I miss her still. - Most pesty weed you have to deal with in your yard/garden ? Well there are 2. I don't know what either one is called, but one has nasty nasty thorns and the other spreads like wildfire. Bane of my existence! - Are you a sunbather or a shade-seeker? Shade. I don't like the sun beating down on me anymore. - Sitting out on your patio, balcony, porch or wherever, what’s your go-to drink to relax with? Big glass of ice tea, emphasis on the ice. - A fav outfit to relax in when nobody is expected to come calling? Oversized t-shirt and shorts. - Favorite Summertime dinner? Anything with fresh summer veges. - Dessert? So.... this is weird, but fudgescicles - What song or songs just say “Summer” to you? Ditto nini804 - Do you put out hummingbird feeders? Bird houses? Bird baths? We have 2 birdbaths and we have 2 hummer feeders. And this is the 1st year we've had more than one. In fact we have about 8 that have become regulars! Makes me happy to watch the zippy little acrobats! Also have some bluebird houses. We only had 1 clutch of birds this year. Not sure why... - Do you have a tradition or traditions for the upcoming Labor Day Weekend? I have to work Labor Day. :-( Other wise, I'd probably go dove hunting with the hubs. - What would be a dream Summertime week away someplace (in this/your country)? I'd love to go to Cape Cod and see the hydrangea festival!! Saw a feature about it on CBS's Sunday morning. It looks so appealing! Doubt if I could get hubs to go that far just for flowers. LOL Any place cool would be nice as well. Great thread Lynn!...See More- last year
