Gardenia: One Year Four Months later...its still Alive...Yay!!
Comments (18)Thanks Jim!! Not sure about the green thumb tropical, lol...but it is a lot of work growing tropical fruit trees where it freezes, that's for sure. I'm just glad it doesn't happen too often, but then it only takes one to do severe damage :o( But the people up north growing them in pots have it a lot harder than me, so I can't complain too much. There is one lonely mango on the tree, less than the size of a green pea, but it looks like its going to drop off. But its okay, just knowing that its capable of producing fruit is a start! In keeping on staying on topic for this thread and for those not sick of looking at more gardenia pictures, took these today...the blooms are just about done for a while. We are getting way too hot...low 90's this week! Arghhhhh!!...See MoreOne tomato after 3 months
Comments (18)debrjean, You said "I've had lots of blossoms...they look great then the yellow flowers start drying up and they dry up about 1/2" below the blossom and break of there." That is classic symptoms of blossom drop. I have linked the FAQ page for that problem below. Heat and nitrogen are two of the main reasons blossoms drop. The shade should help with the heat issue. Fertilizer that is 5-1-1 is not very balanced. If I were you I'd try something that is more even in values, or if you can find something that is a little lower in N and a tad higher in P and K, it might help. Something like 1-3-3 or 1-1-3 might help balance it out. Betsy Here is a link that might be useful: "Blossom Drop" FAQ...See MoreStucco doesn't look right after 7 months; will it still darken?
Comments (7)Stucco can darken slightly during the first year. However this darkening is so subtle that you would probably never notice it unless you had an original sample of the color and placed it next to it. Unlike paint, stucco contains natural minerals that go all the way through the product making it less prone initially from fading from the sun. If you are really unhappy with the color, you can have a product sprayed over the existing stucco that is not a paint but a cement coating that will become part of the original stucco. LaHabra Stucco calls theirs Fog Coat. I don't know how expensive an endeavor this will be, but it is an option. As a piece of advice for anyone considering stucco or EIFS on their home, make sure you see the color you choose either on a very large sample that you view outside in the sunlight or have the applicator give you the address of a home with the same color. The color representations on those small chips are notoriously inaccurate -- in fact they all give some type of disclaimer about the consistency of color charts. Also be warned that very dark colors will eventually begin to lighten after exposure to the sun. Although not usually used on residential homes, colors such as red, black, dark blue, etc. will fade out completely. I've seen red trim on commercial buildings that turn to pink in less than 10 years....See MoreFinally Done after THREE Months
Comments (9)Thanks Catmonm, the tile is actually a tumbled marble in a herringbone pattern. ZeeBee, I thought perhaps the 3x6 tile was going to be boring, so I used the pattern to add interest, but there was much more variation in the tile color than I anticipated, which was a welcomed surprise. The color ranges from taupe to almost milk chocolate....See Moreorganic_kitten
