Calorie 'Sticker Shock'
Comments (8)silversword~ Thanks for posting this. It's a good and interesting read. I think people sometimes know that these foods are LOADED with calories, carbs, and fat, but "See No Evil" takes over when taste buds, cravings, and will power are involved. Having the CALORIES put IN YOUR FACE -- labeled on each portion, puts the rubber to the road and makes one decide whether the worth the "price." And, for me, it's the accountability of ordering something like that when you're with a friend!!!! lol....See MoreWeekly Support Oct 6 - 12
Comments (14)Good morning everyone, Linda, I don't know why you have gained a pound. I am fluctuating too. Yesterday morning I was 2 1/2 pounds lighter than this morning. I am now 30 days since my last period (starting to change last two years) and I ate properly yesterday. I am staying the course no matter what because I feel great about being able to control that much in my day. It feels right for me to eat healthy. My body will sort itself out and I am sticking with this. Linda you can rant here as much as you need to. We are listening and understand your frustration. (((((((Linda))))))) I slept last night without any help, yesterday afternoon I crashed too. Being the fall I just roll with it as much as possible. Thank heavens for the internet when insomnia hits. Matti - I've done that too. I'm not wasteful either but sometimes you have to do these things for your health. I am with you on that action. I'll be online this weekend too. I am taking apples with me for snacks when I go out, packing water and planning to stick to my guns with portion control during our holiday meal. I don't enjoy stuffing myself. How do you deal with family pushing more food on you? Here dear - you should have a piece of this too or more of that. Have a piece of pie - one more won't hurt you. My favourite response to pushy people is this one: Thank you. I enjoyed our meal together but I am pleasantly full right now and don't want to ruin it. The word pleasant is not a unusual term so it catches people off guard and they respond to it. My message is clear - I am comfortable. I don't enjoy feeling stuffed at all. More effective than I saying you are on a diet because there are those who like to sabotage efforts because they have their own issues to deal with. This throws them off to. Everyone wants to feel good. So I use this psychological feel good word that everyone can relate to. I have found this to be most effective. Stick with me - we can do this. Follow your dream, take care of yourself because you deserve good health. You deserve to take care of yourself for a change. I hit a lower weight yesterday so I know my body is heading that way. I am sticking with it this weekend. In the meantime while the scales dance around my body is changing. Let's all not go past the "pleasantly full" when eating. You'll thank yourself later. Have a great day my friends! Cheers, Peggy...See MoreRecipe Portion Size
Comments (2)Tricia: I use a small Mellon Scoop for making Pizzelles. and small Meatballs for Wedding Soup. I use the Ice Cream scoop for Meatballs. Grainlady: The first time my wife made Filled Cookies ( fruit ) they were about the size of a Softball Diameter (unbaked ) When she looked in the oven she Screamed. They almost filled a Dinner Plate. Next time she used just a bottom and folded it over the Fruit , Like a Ravioli and pinched the edge with a fork to seal it. They were great. If anyone wants the recipe , I could probably find it. This was from a 1930's Cookbook. LOU...See MorePortion size
Comments (7)A 'portion' doesn't always assume the food is the sole course. I'm usually amazed by how many sweets are considered 'a portion' in the Nutrition Facts on the packaging. I'm looking at a bag of individually wrapped, assorted Lindt chocolates. It says 'a serving' is 230 calories, but... their idea of 'a serving' is FOUR pieces. My idea of a serving is ONE piece. You'll eat more directly from a bag of chips or a carton of crackers. Put 'a portion' into a dish; close up and put away the package; eat from the dish. Experiments have shown that people will eat much more of anything they like as long as they can see the food in front of them. One experiment rigged soup bowls from the bottom so that there was a constant supply of soup in the bowl. People who previously had felt satisfied after eating one bowl of soup consumed three times as much of the 'bottomless' soup before putting down their spoons. You'll consume less if you pay attention to the food when you eat it. You'll consume more if you are eating 'mindlessly' -- while watching TV, for instance. I think you'll eat less alone than 'in company', too....See Morebbstx
