Weekly Weigh-in 04/12/10
Comments (3)So glad someone has started this. I was around 166, was diagnosed with polymyalgia and atrial fibrilation. Was put on predisone and as a result jumped to 192. Although they say it is hard to get weight down when on prednisone, I really wanted to try. I was sick of being so heavy. I'm also on blood thinners and having problems trying to keep the readings steady. I decided that I was going to try to tabulate everything I ate to keep the Vitamin K at a steady daily level. My GP and cardiologist agreed to letting me do it, but they told me that no one would want to do that. However, I have stuck at it. Information is somewhat limited and I have had to do a lot of research. I'm trying to keep my calories at 1200 also, and the Vitamin K at 30 mcg's daily. It is very hard to balance them both. I'm now down to 155. The cardiologist says that is enough. I would like to get down to at least 150 and preferably 145. I want to do it slowly with the hope that it says off. I have to try to walk each day, because of the atrial fibrilation, and walk with a walker. I will be 80 in a few months. I did get a pedometer but can't manage the 10,000 steps suggested. Yesterday though, I did rack up a total of 6500 steps. That is the most yet. Usullally it is between 3 and 4,000. All the best to everyone. Let's make this site a popular one. We all need it, if we are trying to lose weight. WE WILL SUCCEED!!! ivamae...See MoreWeekly Support 13 - 19 Oct
Comments (12)Hi Everyone! How has your week been? I am extremely happy now that things are finally moving. Thank you Juellie for the recipe - definitely going to give it a try. Always interested in lighter versions of old favorites. Cooking Light magazine has stuff online too that's great. We have been invited to our friends for dinner tonight for pizza....I contacted them to thank them very much. I let them know I will not be having pizza and offered to bring soup and other stuff I am eating - my friend said no problem. Instead of having two pizzas she is only doing one and she has made a pot of home made soup with salad for tonight instead. They are healthy eaters - her home cooking is to die for. So we are all going to eat a little lighter tonight than originally planned. Yaaaaay. Never hurts to ask/offer does it. I met the challenge. I am doing a lemon pie for dessert. I plan a small piece and will not eat any crust. I do not expect one small piece will wreck my week nor day. Given that dinner will be healthy I am sure it will all work out. So I planned ahead, made an offer and now I can enjoy my evening with my friends. How do you tackle invites? This is all about a healthy lifestyle, choices, compensating, learning to give and take. Finding alternatives, making adjustments to fit what is right for us. All little things we can do for ourselves over time for better health in the long run. You can do this with me. I am offering my hand out to you whether you post or just read along - don't be alone in your journey. Success is helped by sharing ideas, our ups and downs, moments in life. No matter what happens don't give up on yourself. Let the moment pass and put that foot forward and down. Take that step again. My soul sister is doing well this time round. She is tackling her weaknesses with her partner. Like myself, things they cannot hold back from they no longer have in their pantry. Old habits that led to evening snacking they are changing to find new things to do. My husband is not on this journey with me but he is benefiting because what I am preparing is healthier, tastier - yes it is tastier because I am taking more care in preparing our food. One thing he no longer does is go for a second helping. He uses the 20 minute rule. He waits to see if he is still hungry or not. Neither of us enjoy feeling stuffed. We are both benefiting from this journey like my friend and her partner. Do you have a Friday night challenge? A weekend challenge? Can we help each other through these moments? Do share. Let's not forget our water today too. My wood is drying again so I'm getting out to do some more tossing and stacking. It's cooler this morning - 13C or that about 64F. Good temps for outdoor activity. Afterwards a lovely shower with chamomile/lavender bath gel, condition my hair and girly goop myself up. Might even do a facial - why not? Have a great day today everyone! Seize the moment. You deserve to focus on yourself too - don't forget that. Cheers, Peggy...See MoreDaily Support Mon Oct 6 - Sun Oct 12
Comments (41)Hi everyone, First of all, I want to thank everyone for their continued prayers, hugs, good wishes and just for being there. I am slowly getting back to what ever this week's version of normal is. When my kids were still home, we went through all of my photos and made a picture CD of Lucas. It was heartbreaking, yet healing at the same time. It is still hard to wrap my head around the idea that we will never see his smile again, but we did have lots of years to enjoy that smile and I am trying to cling to that. My kids were extremely close to Lucas and his 2 sisters, and most of the pictures are of the 5 of them in various poses. My other two nieces lived in SC and didn't get to visit very often. So my kids took Lucas' death very hard and it was hard for me to let them go back to FL and LA. Relatives kept harping on the fact that my son was the only boy left. Needless to say, this made me feel nervous and teary. But tears are necessary in the healing process and I am sure that what I am feeling is only a fraction of the pain my DSIL and DBIL are feeling. After we looked at all of Lucas' pictures, I decided to scrapbook my kids' albums that had the old fashioned sticky pages. I am not getting fancy, but at least the new pages are acid free and I can rest easy knowing the photos will be preserved. Plus I needed something to focus on and it seems to be helping. So I know that I have been MIA and I know you all understand. I will try to get on-line more often and keep up with everyone's trials and tribulations. ((Hugs)) to those who need them and thank you again for being there. It really helps!! Marci...See MoreSupport Oct 18 thru Oct 24
Comments (12)Good Morning! Hi Milkdud! Sounds like you are on the right track! Therapy can be so cleansing and so validating. I am wishing the very best for you! Hi Patti! How are you?? How's dave? Dee, i know it took awhile but I PM'd you thru Garden Web a while back with a whole list of ideas but didn't hear back.... I am SO GLAD that you are seeing the cardiologist soon. Zumba sounds fun! I want to hear all about it please! Well, I have been reading up but not posting, I confess. I had a rough go of it for awhile. DS left for university and to celebrate, I promptly came down with the flu. Just as I was recovering, I got hit by what only could be called another strain of that same bug, and in total, was in bed for 11 days. I missed so much work, was so far behind in paperwork and SO WEAK after that last bout, that I had to cancel my trip to NYC that we'd had planned for almost a year : ( Back in the saddle, the case load is frighteningly low and I am looking to contract with some new agencies. Such is the nature of home health nursing and even with the ups and downs, I LOVE it! I am enjoying life as an empty nester! There is just something freeing about the whole thing! I married and had kids way too young and THESE, ladies, are my Twenties! : ) I am scheduled to take a rolling class in my kayak next month and this weekend I am getting a surf kayaking lesson with a meet up group I found. I have a stack of books to be read and I'm determined to master some of the new tech out there too. I am treating myself to a new Droid next week, so we'll see...I have a 3 day trip to San Francisco planned for November, then a 4 day jaunt to Oregon. I really have the sense that this is my TIME! As for healthy eating etc, I maintained my weight all summer, eating pretty much what I wanted, but tracking my food daily. Just started back on the treadmill again after being sick. Gotta check in at the weekly weigh in thread. I don't know how many of you are thinking about going to the Girlfriend's Getaway in May, but I am going! Wouldn't it be great if we could all go? I am going to start ticket shopping right after Christmas. Today, I have only one patient visit planned. Then I am driving out to UCLA to drop band equipment off to DS,who has a gig on Friday and apparently can't LIVE without this particular amplifier! Then I am cooking for a friend who is wheel- chair bound for 3 weeks (poor baby!) and off to a meeting at church. It's a wonderful rainy day! (((hugs))) Tikanis...See More- 11 years ago
