We have two W.Schillig leather sectionals. Both were made in their factory in China. We got both styles in the same black, semi-aniline/protected leather grade (76 or 77?), with matching-color stitching (no charge for contrasting stitching). The first sectional had a few issues on delivery; chipped feet, packing creases, a smudge of something in one small spot, and it exhibited "pocketing" in/on one section of seat cushion. We were very upset, and initially wanted a replacement, but allowed the store to send out a professional to do his "magic"--he "ironed" out the packing creases (which continued to smooth out during use), removed the smudge, and had the store order new feet. The pocketing resolved itself as the foam regained its shape and resiliency (from the wrapping, shipping....). We ordered our second sectional from a different store (because of a terrific sale event at that store the time). We were (and continue to be) happy with the first sectional after the "repairs" were completed, so felt comfortable ordering a second W.Schillig sectional. This particular store (out-of-state) actually has items come to their store or warehouse first, to be checked over before they are delivered to the customers. This sectional arrived in perfect condition. The couch is beautiful, and super-comfy (this one is in our family room).

Your assumption is correct and I will add that Costco also sells at the bottom end, but I think most consumers are aware of this so their expectations are much lower on furniture purchased from this retailers. Some furniture in Macy's are a bit better, but then again your better off buying from the manufacturer that builds it for Macy's. Its not that difficult to make a cheap sofa with good first impressions. Its much more difficult and costly to build a sofa that sits good the first day forward to the next 10+years. Google furniture manufacturers, and visit their website. See if they build quality furniture and stand behind it with a good warranty and support.

I have a family room that is off the kitchen too. MY DH loves our Natuzzi. They make many different styles, colors and sizes. I love being able to read near my kitchen. I agree a sofa that you sink into doesn't work when you are reading a cook book with something on the stove. Not knowing your style, colors etc.. I found a few sofas that are apartment size. These tend to be smaller. Rowe is normally large but they do have a few that are small. How about Baers sectional? Bergstorm is a furniture that sells small cozy sofas? This off topic, but I thought I’d mention it. I have a vintage caramel leather chair from pottery barn that I had near a window. It was a rich creamy caramel colour and the change was so gradual I didn’t notice it until several months later. The light really does a number on leather and areas where the light/sun hit the chair has lightened the leather a lot. Those parts are more a grayish caramel and I wish I’d noticed it sooner. I’ve moved the chair away from the windows but the damage is done. Just a heads up since you said you wanted to put your couch in front of the window.
