Lucky you! Maybe consider a grey green on entire home with creamy white trim. If roof is black then add some accents below.

The windows are fine, just need a great siding body color you love... and isn't the same as all the neighbors.

Does your daughter have any preferences regarding the deep colors you mentioned?

I like the garage - looks like a hay mow at top - is that functional storage or only a facade decor? I can’t offer paint color advice but agree that color & paint needed. on line color visualizers are the way to pick colors & really important to test samples on the house. I also agree that the existing shrubs should go. New landscaping will be biggest bang for bucks. I would spend the money for a professional design layout which you can then DIY install or hire out for that too. The planting bed should be much larger than it is now & include both evergreens for the year round filler & spring / summer flowering shrubs that complement the new house color. Consider adding a hard paved or brick border to sidewalk to widen it & change shape from straight & narrow. Incorporated into design should be placement of small tree or large speciman shrub sited to fill that bare space between the 3 windows on left & 2 on right in both floors of house. I’d also look at changing front storm door to a full panel glass so the pretty (& new) color door can be seen for max impact. Change lights for new & beefier porch lights, install house address numbers either on left or right of door - either side will work since that overgrown evergreen will be gone. I’m sure doing these updates will dramatically improve the curb appeal of this nice, clean home for your daughter. And, you thought your hard ”dad, help!” work was done when she grew up and moved out!

The windows do have a balance, so I don't think that is a real problem. They should not have shutters.

There are some great colors to look at. If it is sided with vinyl, make sure you get paint formulated for vinyl. I would use white as the trim color. These are some of my favorite Benjamin Moore darker exterior colors.

You could start by removing the overgrown shrubs. I would do a soft foundation planting mixing flowering and evergreen bushes. Mountain Laurel and Rhododendron should do well. Include perennials and a variety of color and texture. Your local nursery should help with plant selection and layout. Allow for growth, at least a foot from the side of the house when the plant reached mature size. Plant an ornamental tree out in the yard centered on the space in the middle of the house.

Is that Zoysia grass? I hope not. It looks terrible as soon as it gets cold and is almost impossible to remove.

Dave, those colors from houssaon are pretty darn nice. Love the gray…love the slate blues. That Newburyport Blue is especially nice. Any of those would be a win-win.

A house near me is deep dark blue with white trim, and a mint green door (the color of crest toothpaste). It looks fabulous!

I'd be tempted to add a porch across the front that would also help divide the upper and lower floors and somewhat conceal the irregular placement of the windows.

You don't see many side entry Garrison Colonial homes, but putting focus on the door would be a good step. These next two seem to have added decorative corbels under the overhang.

Agree that shutters won't work for you, but the door needs to be the focal point. Lights that are 1/3 of the door's height would be best. Consider a porch covering the door and the window next to it if not all the way across the facade.

Cute house! You mention your daughter likes grey so I did the house in grey. A combination of grey, white and black. I added a porch to define the front door and nice place sit. I also added a long flowebox along the sidewalk (above the low stone wall) for plantings (I show grasses).
