L Shaped Kitchen Layout_ Any Advice Appreciated
Comments (25)Personally I'd make the following changes. I showed you in gray how you have almost no actual great room space. You need to account for walkways, etc. The grey indicates the actual usable space on your plan for the great room. Note how it's a tiny space in such a large houseI agree with Stan that you don't need the powder room. I would remove the powder room. Then I'd move the door into the front bedroom to next to the bathroom. This would give you a longer wall for furniture or a tv or a bookcase or... The other advantage is now the door to the bedroom isn't in the great room so there's more privacy. I made the closet more of a small walk in closet in the front bedroom and added a "window" seat and a window between the closet and the front of the house. If not a window seat, it could house a desk, or a chair or a??? In the second bedroom, I moved the entry too so now you don't have an awkward wall you walk towards when you go into the hallway. I wouldn't be so concerned with exterior symmetry as you need to concern yourself with interior space. I would move the doors to the side closest to the office. I personally would make it a single 36" wide door, but left the double doors. Then I'd shift the windows over so you have 4 windows in the great room. Now notice how you have a narrower hallway space but a much larger great room? I shortened your left perimeter counter in your kitchen and moved your cooktop closer up a bit. You still have plenty of prep space and this now gives you some room in a dining room area to put a buffet or some nice furniture. I increased your island size and I flipped the dishwasher to the side between the fridge and sink. This now creates good flow from fridge to sink to prep to cooking....See MoreQ about family room tables- coffee, side, console etc?
Comments (3)You have options! Short answer is nothing has to match but it all needs to coordinate in some way. With that in mind, it can be more efficient to buy everything together but it's not your only option. Purchasing separates gives you a lot more room to personalize your space and buy pieces outside of a particular collection or even a particular store. If it is possible, bring samples of your upholstery fabric from your chairs and sofa or bring photos of your resources along with photos of your space and all other pieces in your family room when you go out shopping. Don't forget about photos (or samples when applicable) of any window treatments, ceiling fixtures, and hardware in the room. Look for ways to tie in all current and prospective finishes, colors, and textures. Often times, a knit throw blanket or woven rug can be your best opportunity to tie your full palette together. With your accent table selection, look for pieces of a similar style and/or similar finishes so you can ensure some cohesiveness with your new additions. When you get those pieces into your space then consider accessories and think about where you might need to bring your full furniture palette together, again, in color or finish combinations. Happy shopping!...See MoreShould I paint the fireplace??? (and any other help is appreciated!)
Comments (8)You might like a lime wash on your fireplace along with a larger mantel placed lower if possible. Romabio has several light colors of lime wash available at Home Depot, and it's not hard to do. romabio.com I like junco's idea of the tv mounted on the wall with a narrow console to the right of the doors and moving your chairs along the wall where the tv is now. You could have a table and lamp between the chairs and have a nice place for reading. You have a wonderful place for a tall dracena in the corner to the right of the fireplace-a corn plant or Janet Craig would look nice there. If you have the room, a sofa table behind your sofa would look nice. If you have infloor electrical plugs, you could put a lamp there, too. It looks like your HVAC vents are in the floor. If your home is built on a crawl space or a basement, you could have infloor plugs added by an electrician. If that's a rug I'm seeing between the sofa and chairs, you might get one with more color. Your horse picture has some nice colors you could draw from. Since that's the only art work I see in the room, adding one or two more colorful prints to your walls will help bring in color. Your tv mounted over the fireplace may cause everyone in your family to have neck problems. Please don't put it there. The horse print looks great over the fireplace. You have a nice family room that just needs some pops of color-and more lighting....See MorePlease Help Me Select a Coffee Table
Comments (91)I really wanted a console table under these prints which is 10 feet long. But lately, I have been using the sofa table for my drinks, books and stuff and I like it. It is much more user friendly than the coffee table/chest. Maybe getting a sofa table and leather ottoman would work....See MoreEmily Freisher
