Heading out the door... The Cetaphil gentle cleanser (not sure if it supposed to be used on your face or just body), makes my face feel like I didn't wash it after use. Maybe it's just that I didn't totally strip all the oils off, lol. I don't think I ever saw CeraVe anywhere. I'll look today while out. I would love to find something minimal yet effective. Those EWG site for that and cosmetics really gets overwhelming and frustrating to the point where I'm like, just forget it. Most of the makeup I use fits in the mid range stuff. I was sitting there last night looking and saying,"Won't give up that, really like that, just bought a new one of that....." Then I was looking at Badger sunscreens and the unscented SPF 30 lotion isn't marked as a moisturizer but falls under beach and sport. Looks like it has good stuff in it (vit E etc) but I wonder if it would be too much to wear under makeup. I read somewhere that really sunscreen was really a moisturizer with SPF. I haven't been taken fish oils for some time now and I did think of that. My diet has taken a fall as well as my water intake and exercising too as of late. Still mad that I can't run and have a poor attitude about the whole thing so I haven't done anything - which I know is really stupid. I'm curious to see how the bridesmaid dress I'm trying on today fits. Well that was long but I type fast. ;)

My dermatologist recommended CeraVe. I use the moisturizing lotion on my face, morning and night -- haven't tried the one with sunblock. I slather the moisturizing cream (in a jar) all over the rest of me after I bathe. (And I do mean *slather*.) I know the cream is intended for the face, but I don't care. I like this much better than Lubriderm or any oil. She also recommended Cetaphil body wash, but it leaves a sort of greasy feel. I was told to avoid hot baths -- not doing that either. (Bad patient.) Maybe it I 'cut' the Cetaphil with baking soda, like Sushipup... Who has something good for the cuticles? Mine want to take over my nails. I can't push them back without bleeding -- even after a bath -- and then they won't stay back. There's no 'give' there. At 75, my skin is too thin. Well, *I* am too thin, too. BTW, it's my understanding that we have skin to form a protective *barrier*. This means none of the products you put ON your skin go much beyond the surface. Some of the products 'rough up' (destroy) the top layer of cells so that they slough off faster (the 'glow'), but a 'moisturizer' can really only put a layer of protection between your skin and the drying air. 'Moisturizers' that promise more should probably all be labeled "Hope" or "Faith" or "The Power of Positive Thinking" because our protective layer of skin won't let them penetrate. They can only help keep drying air away from whatever moisture is IN the skin.

None of the above. Unfortunately I have very odd (and naturally very dry, thin skin with rosacea). Of course my many allergies do not help. But basically it is what works for you. I can't use most botanicals, anything with any form of acid/retinol etc. (this includes lactic acid), niacinamide, evening primose oil - the list goes on (and includes oils). Anything "natural" is a nightmare as are anti-aging products. Sun screen is a must (I used to have (and still do thanks to Goldwell colour) auburn hair and burn in a nanosecond. Finding one I can use that is not drying is hard. As a result, I always have a back up (or two) and am constantly on the search for when, not if, what I use is discontinued or reformulated using one of the above mentioned ingredients. Unfortunately I have to use high end products, but at least they are on the low end of the high cost spectrum due to the ingredients that I can't use. I wear makeup that is oil based. Finding colours that suit is hard due to high levels of body acidity - most products turn either hot pink or bright orange on me - neither colour being one I suit. The best advice I can offer is to try samples but know going in what will absolutely not work for you - this will help prevent unintended flare ups. My skin is pretty quick to react so I don't need too many samples. I try to always buy products at the stores that know me and my skin - once a cosmetics salesperson has seen what happens when they try certain products on my skin (and they are honest) they are horrified. Until recently I had 2 such sales people. Unfortunately, they are no longer working. I have become a very informed consumer and not by choice. The really "funny" part is that after I pile a tonne of stuff on my face that results in a natural look, people tell me I have good skin - even at my age. No I don't it is the makeup! I hope you find something that alleviates your dry skin problem. I always read threads like these hoping against hope that I will discover something I can use. One thing you might try doing is using a moisturizing toner, followed by a hydrating serum/cream, followed by a rich cream. The hydrating serum/cream being the main layer that really helps. I generally have to use one product from each of several lines.
