Can you recommend a good book?
Comments (28)Xminion, have not heard about Larson's latest book and I hesitate to buy and put it on my "TBR" (to be read) pile which already requires me to use a step stool to reach the top. :-) I'd love to see the Chicago Museum building. I take it it is no longer white? It really must have been breathtaking to see the whole fair in white. A gal in our book club, and the one who chose this book, grew up in Chicago and her grandfather worked on the fair buildings so she shared some photos and old movie footage from back in the day. So interesting. Jodi-...See MoreRecommending a really good mystery.
Comments (4)Yes, it is a murder mystery. It takes place in Seattle and is a full length book. I am a picky reader and appreciate a book that is written in proper English. The dialog flows naturally. Just when I thought the story seemed bogged down with a long section of similar description and action, there was a surprising moment. Three such injections of a change of interest that keep the story moving. There are three areas of special interest covered; one is about the life of an autistic person. I believe this story is better, and the book better written than "House Rules" by Jodi Picoult, which also includes autistic behavior. I can't say more without giving away too much of the plot. This is a first novel and I hope the author receives the notice she deserves. Nancy...See MoreFacial mole removel; can a family physician do a good job?
Comments (23)I live in Canada. Moles are called skin tags here. Unless they are extremely tiny a GP cannot remove them. The patient has to see a Dermatologist or a Plastic Surgeon - and the price for removal is determined by the size and number of moles to be removed. Our Ontario provincial plan does not pay for skin tag removal and neither does the office plan - and the amount cannot be claimed on income taxes although under our system the amount is really a small tax credit anyway. It is very hard to get into see a derm or PS for such a procedure. But should a patient want Botox or something like that they would be in the next day. Go figure. I paid $500 last time to have a few moles burned off by a PS. I had previously paid $200 to a derm. The PS was better. Actually he had removed a large mole from my nose several years ago and it did not leave a scar at all. But all moles have to be looked at to determine if the moles themselves would be less prominent than the resulting scars. I have a few other flattish moles and while they could be removed the scars would look worse, so we are leaving them alone. It is a lot easier to see a specialist in the U.S - and I would do so and see what the specialist says about possible scarring. The sad thing is of course is that I could burn some of them off myself - if they were small enough....See MorePlease Recommend a Good Moisturizer
Comments (52)None of the above. Unfortunately I have very odd (and naturally very dry, thin skin with rosacea). Of course my many allergies do not help. But basically it is what works for you. I can't use most botanicals, anything with any form of acid/retinol etc. (this includes lactic acid), niacinamide, evening primose oil - the list goes on (and includes oils). Anything "natural" is a nightmare as are anti-aging products. Sun screen is a must (I used to have (and still do thanks to Goldwell colour) auburn hair and burn in a nanosecond. Finding one I can use that is not drying is hard. As a result, I always have a back up (or two) and am constantly on the search for when, not if, what I use is discontinued or reformulated using one of the above mentioned ingredients. Unfortunately I have to use high end products, but at least they are on the low end of the high cost spectrum due to the ingredients that I can't use. I wear makeup that is oil based. Finding colours that suit is hard due to high levels of body acidity - most products turn either hot pink or bright orange on me - neither colour being one I suit. The best advice I can offer is to try samples but know going in what will absolutely not work for you - this will help prevent unintended flare ups. My skin is pretty quick to react so I don't need too many samples. I try to always buy products at the stores that know me and my skin - once a cosmetics salesperson has seen what happens when they try certain products on my skin (and they are honest) they are horrified. Until recently I had 2 such sales people. Unfortunately, they are no longer working. I have become a very informed consumer and not by choice. The really "funny" part is that after I pile a tonne of stuff on my face that results in a natural look, people tell me I have good skin - even at my age. No I don't it is the makeup! I hope you find something that alleviates your dry skin problem. I always read threads like these hoping against hope that I will discover something I can use. One thing you might try doing is using a moisturizing toner, followed by a hydrating serum/cream, followed by a rich cream. The hydrating serum/cream being the main layer that really helps. I generally have to use one product from each of several lines....See More- 9 years ago
