need help to pick trim and door color
We had some brown/gray rock put on the front of house but now some say the house looks disjointed. I could change the colors of the gutters, trim and door. Would prefer not to have to paint the vinyl siding

Comments (13)annz - Thanks for your reply! Ideally I'd like more time to choose. I took Forever to pick the wall colors, and drove DH up a wall (I'm surprised we're still married - ha ha!). This is my way of sort of making it up to him, lol. Although Benjamin Moore has some no voc paints that we can get locally, we choose American Pride b/c it's supposed to be non toxic (we have a baby and are renovating the entire house - which we've yet to move into, so I'm trying to be as green and non toxic as possible). sueb20 - Thank you for your suggestions! Yes, I agree that we should paint the doors and trim the same color. (Thanks for setting me straight!) And, thank goodness that the ceiling doesn't need to match the trim exactly. Atrium White and Decorators White are very pretty, but the lighting in our home was not doing them justice. And so, the winner is - Simply White! It looks white, without any gray or blue tint to it. And I like how it has a touch of warmth - as most of our colors are warm, and we have a lot of northern light. It's not my favorite white for our one Beacon Gray bathroom, but it will still look nice. As for the bedroom that will have Mascarpone on the bottom - I'm still a little concerned there b/c Simply White is very close in color and doesn't "pop" like a cooler white would, but hopefully the semi gloss sheen will help with the contrast a bit. We'll see... Overall though, I think Simply White will work really great in our home, and I'm excited to see everything painted! Thank you all again for your replies! Comments (1)don't know if it's supposed to work, but that house has so much "weight"-depth, dimension, mass, presence, something like that-that I think a front door that matches the other trim would be excellent. With the mass or whatever I'm trying to say of all that rich wood siding, you need something deep & powerful; different colors might look fussy & insignificant. Comments (2)That's a tricky one being your husband probably wont like bright colored door to make the house pop. My first thought was a real or turquoise, but thinking about your husband not liking bright colors, black is the only thing that comes to mind....See Moreklupu

however, adding darker trim will make much more cohesive, lik misecretary shows. That green is just horrible against the stone! lol.
And really, you need to move that rain gutter to other end. where it is now completely ruins the look of the front and your beautiful stone work.
if the stone has some taupe tones to it (hard to see from your pic) try any of these colors for the trim

So imagine doing the trim work everywhere you have your green, but you have to remove those shutters. Vertical black house numbers, a new light, new pots.I gave you a copper rain chain at the far left.
try doing something like either of these two in the flower bed to disguise the run-off. (Paint the downspout the same as the siding or the darker trim color (but really try and move it)
some other door colors, diff light
I think you have a red door now? can the storm door be removed? it would really be a huge improvement.teal front door. numbers, bronze light, copper pot
if those two darker colors don't work, here are some gray/taupe tones that should match the stone.
Pair it w/a nice magenta shade for flowers/pots, muted version for the front doora dark raisin or grape color might also look nice.
I can do some other colors if you prefer. let me know if you like any theseklupu

you can patch the holes in the siding and just use a touch up paint.moving that downspout would be one of the first things I'd do!
You can find a retractable screen door to replace the storm door.
Lighten up your pots against the dark stone, bring in some white flowers/bright green foilage.
don't forget your address numbers like shown^

I like the light blue door, but any of the other colors are nice too.
to further highlight the landscape, think about bordering your walkway w/some type of pavers,
or even a flower bedthe day lilies are pretty in the yellow. you could have a smaller border going up your walk, or try these in your flowerbed
whatever you have to do to rectify that downspout,,,,

26 days agolast modified: 26 days agoTake off the shutters! They don't fit, they are vinyl and don't do one thing for your adorable house.
I think what some are seeing is dark bottom, white mid section, dark roof. Paint the white clapboard the brown/gray. It will make house look more cohesive.
Monitors are fickle, but I am seeing this color for clapboard.
B.M. likes Thundercloud Gray as a coordinate. Try it on the front door AND the storm.
