Helleborus lividus 'Pink Marble', 'Elegance'
Comments (9)Interesting that you should bring up Burpeewood (that's my name for it, too!!) - Heronswood, under the guidance of Dan Hinkley, had an intensive hellebore breeding program that only recently has come to fruition (since Burpees moved into the picture). BPW is now promoting their clonal forms (TC'd) of 4 different hellebores, 3 x hybridus and a nigercors. Another local vendor has the TC license (since it has the TC labs) and my nursery (and a couple others) helped to promote them here last month at the NW Flower & Garden show. 2 of the hybridus are very appealing: a raspberry red double ('Kingston Cardinal') and a single butter yellow with heavy maroon spotting ('Goldfinch'). I'd expect you'll see them at the Philadelphia show. This same vendor also carries a full line of unnamed, uncloned Heronswood x hybridus and my sales rep recently gifted me with a gorgeous butter yellow double. I am planning on doing a small grouping of the three of these - the raspberry double, the yellow double and the single that combines both colors! I am just a lover and grower of hellebores myself - no breeding going on here unless nature takes charge of it:-)...See MoreMy Marble Tile Lookalike Recommendation
Comments (16)Your floor looks great! I've been overly obsessing about the floor of my soon to be bathroom, ever since my husband vetoed the marble basketweave I had been planning on for lo these many months. Seeing the faux cararra looking so nice really gives me hope. I'm thinking I want a honed or matte surface if I go for the large scale tile, and found a really decent look-alike by Dal-Tile at Home Depot today. But it is ceramic, not porcelein. Should I be worried? I really have no idea of whether the ceramic would be inferior in a 12x12 tile. BTW, drewem, another poster in the home decorating forum was bemoaning the fact that the Catarina is not available. I guess you've proven that's not the case. Where did you find yours? I hope you'll post on your progress - would love to see more bathrooms of the look-alike kind!...See MoreWill it look ok to do a chrome faucet with polished nickel pulls
Comments (13)Marcolo - I love the faucet in every way but these two ways: a) there's a slight jiggle which I'm told is normal (back to front jiggle, if that makes sense). It's minimal and doesn't affect how it functions but after two other faucets first, I realized I had to stop being so picky. There are also ways to make it tighter but it would involve some monkeying (e.g. replace some inside part with another part). b) the levers are 99% straight but I want them 100% straight. A plumber happened to be over today and darn it if I didn't forget to ask him to try straightening them out. But in the past - with a past faucet of the same type from them - they were a bit off in another direction. And yet the guy whose kitchen inspired me and who I managed to contact had neither of these issues. I'm hoping that too can be monkeyed with but it might have those grooves (?) which after moving to the next one might make it too far the other direction - who knows. I can make them straight (pointing straight down in the off position) but the left side isn't 100% turned all the way as far as it will go (still no dripping though which is good). What I love about it is that it's powerful; if you pop the spout up it sprays and if you have it down, it does the usual thing. I love that it's not so powerful that it sprays you all over and yet still sprays you enough (due to being so tall - as all good-quality faucets do when they're tall) that I usually keep in in the shower position in which case it doesn't spray you at all. I love how unique it is and how no one ever notices how camouflaged it is - how you just pull the camouflaged hose off the top of the neck and spray all over your sink for better cleaning (or into a coffee pot). I love that it's the ONLY wall-mounted, traditional looking, gooseneck faucet that offers a built-in sprayer with no holes being cut into one's countertop. I love the choice of levers/handles/wheels (stainless, white with think silver stripe or black with thin silver stripe) - they look very elegant. And lastly, I love the solid stainless steel, polished. Looks very warm - almost like nickel - and is stunning to look at. So if we were talking stars, I'd give it a 4.5 or so out of 5. Customer service is good, too. How's that? Did I leave anything out? :)...See MoreMatte Floors and Honed Marble Counter tops
Comments (7)Thanks for your replies. FIRSTHOUSE. I love your kitchen. It is BEAUTIFUL. Your kitchen looks both "homey" , "clean and classic" and ELEGANT just as I imagined mine to be. We are having our cabinets made with glass fronts like yours also. And yes we have the same look in floors. We just had ours oak floors refinished with Miracle Oil, it is suppose to be tougher than poly, ( used in the Grand Ole' Opry dance floor.) Do you like them? We don't have our baseboards back up or furniture in the rooms yet , people think they are not finished. Here's another question FIRSTHOUSE, in the photo your counters look like marble. DH would like granite over marble over concern for marble's reputation. I've never seen white granite, can you tell me more about it ? What is its coloration ? Tell me all about your kitchen. Thank you so, so much for your inspiration....See MoreAmy A
