I stopped using shampoo a number of years ago and use only baking soda, with a cider vinegar rinse. I use conditioner to shave with, and that's it. Done in the shower. It takes me minutes as my hair is short.

I sometimes use shampoo just because I have some and don't want to throw it out.

I was recently given a ton of samples of shampoo and conditioner from a neighbour who is a distributor of products to salons.

I squeezed the conditioners into my bottle to use for shaving and tried the shampoo a couple of times. I thought it dried out my hair, so I won't be using them on a regular basis.

When I get my hair cut, she only spritzes my hair with water and then cuts it. I've been going to her for a number of years, she used to work out of her home. Her prices have increased substantially for what I get......just a simple cut and quick blow-dry.

Shampoo and conditioner, in the shower, the lathering is not time consuming, but I rinse very carefully. I wash my hair every other day unless I have been working out, swimming, then wash more often.

I pat my hair dry with a towel, as opposed to rubbing it dry as my mother did when I was growing up. Apparently that is a good way to damage your hair.

I love having my hair washed at the salon. I have never been to a salon where hair washing is not done by a member of staff. My hairdresser even washed my hair once. I was impressed he pitched in that way. He has been working since the 60s, so he had stories to tell about back in the days when women washed their hair only once per week!

It's been a long time since I've had my hair washed at a salon, but I know what you mean, bpath, it does feel so nice and relaxing if gently done.

I wear my hair short (a sort of pixie cut) and wash it every evening as I shower. Towel dry only. Not fussy about shampoo brand -- Suave or store brand, and I never use conditioner.

Shower...always. It doesn't take long but can depend on what products I'm using. I have highlights and might use "purple" shampoo once a week at the most. I leave that on for maybe 3 minutes. I don't use a conditioner all the time...maybe once every third shampoo. It takes very little time if I just use my regular shampoo and nothing else.

Regarding shampoo, last year our daughter gave me these hair products from Olaplex, and I've been using them ever since. Really nice!

ETA - bpath, you mentioned the "shampooers." I know my sister has mentioned having a different person than the stylist wash her hair. I've never had that at any salon. It's always been the stylist that does everything. My sister also said she has the option of blow drying her own hair at her salon. Never seen that, either.

Chloe, funny you should mention Olaplex. I just got their leave in conditioner. I like it. I don't love it. I normally use Kiehl's shampoo, conditioner and leave in conditioner. Kiehl's was out of leave in, so I tried Ouidad, that was the **best** leave in conditioner I ever tried, except the scent ** literally**made me nauseated. I was heartbroken. So now I am wondering if I should try the Olaplex shampoo and conditioner. Since you and I have such similar taste in food, I am thinking this is a sign ;-)

I love having my hair at the salon. At home I take extra time when I usee conditioner.

I use only Kevin Murphy products and have my hair cut color at a Kevin Murphy Salon.

I'm not picky. I will do the baking soda and vinegar thing, but it takes a bit. I have to do the lower half, then the top half. But my child is super crazy about all hair toiletries. They buy it, use it one time, and then move on to something else. Not wanting to waste money I just use up whatever they don't use. I do comb/brush my hair before and after, that seems to be more important for keeping the tangles out and the split ends to a minimum. Just a brush before, but after I use the wide tooth comb then the very spread apart bristle brush, then the closer together bristle brush, medium teeth comb, and then the fine tooth comb. Getting it smoother and smoother each time without ripping hair out.

I'm one of the rare people who wants damaged hair. I have short with some of the original blond and white gray streaks in it. . I have enough hair, but the strands are thin and straight. I wash and blow dry high heat everyday to damage it so it will have some body to it. Otherwise it will lay flat and limp. Once in a while I will use conditioner in the winter when the air is very dry because of static. Two or three times during the winter I will use Sun-in on my hair because the gray likes to turn that dirty brassy color. During the summer the sun takes care of it. I don't care what shampoo I use. The cheap stuff if fine.

My hairdresser has a shampoo girl.

I wash my hair every four days. I use shampoo/conditioner recommended by the stylist and purchased at the salon. They refill the bottles at a good discount. Once per month I use the purple shampoo for the gray hair. I have stopped blow drying my hair. I am a wash and wear gal.

I wash my hair daily because I am active and sweat a lot and it's gross not too. I wash it in the shower before I go to bed usually. It doesn't take long. I shampoo it first. Then I let the conditioner sit in my hair while I take the rest of my shower, and rinse it out last. I have very fine hair and need lots of good conditioner to help with the tangles when it is wet. I only get my hair done a couple times a year and do like having it shampoo, as long as the person doing it doesn't dig their nails into my scalp. I've been going to the same woman for at least 10 years who does it in her home, and she is great.

Function, I was watching a video the other day on YouTube and the person had really thin hair, did similar stuff-but, she used spray dry shampoo on their clean hair. She said it added texture. Hope that helps!

I wash my hair daily in the shower, no conditioner. After wrapping in a towel to dry a bit, i use a leave in conditioning volumizer (Aveda Phomollient), and sometimes spritz a bit of NutriPlenish on my fingers and work into the ends which helps de-tangle. I sometimes spritz a little Texture Tonic on top if we’re going out and I need a real hair boost. My hair is fine and thin.

I wash my hair twice a week. I had been washing it in the tub when I take a bubble bath but when I had my leg injury last year, a light bulb when off. I have a giant soapstone farmhouse sink with a sprayer so that's how I do it now. I have not been to a salon in 35 years, I cut my hair and don't color. I use "It's a 10" with keratin. I also have one of those new brush blowdryers which give hair a salon blowout look.

I'm a "wash and wear" gal. I wash my hair every morning, in the shower. Very occasionally I use conditioner. Towel dry, comb it, no blow drying - my hair is quite fine and also cut quite short - so I'm pretty much good to go at that point. My hairdresser does not wash my hair -she knows I don't like sitting in that chair any longer than I have to, so she dampens it, cuts it and does a quick blow dry. No product.

Every four days unless it gets exceptionally sweaty or dirty. Always in the shower. Shampoo followed by conditioner. Sometimes I use a leave in product afterwards, sometimes not. I like to switch between Pureology and Bumble & Bumble. This year I discovered Patene Illuminating Color Care shampoo and condition online. It seems to work for me also. What never worked are Redkin products. Seem to dry out my hair too much or leave it weighted down or staticky. I do like Redkin's Smoothing milk.

I haven't tried the Olaplex leave-in conditioner. Conditioners in general tend to make my hair feel too soft. I do like the Olaplex conditioner that you rinse out, but I'm careful not to use too much. Also, the bottle says to leave it in for 3 minutes, and I don't always do that since I'm in a rush.

Yuck, getting nauseated from the scent of that conditioner would be a problem!

I wash my hair every 3 or 4 days now. I have a very dry scalp that itches and my hair is getting wiry/frizzing in my old age. It is almost completely white on the underside, still dark brown on top with white here and there.

I was using bar shampoo and conditioner but am going to use it less frequently. Found a shampoo and conditioner in Walgreens about a week ago with oil in it from Garnier. I like it, smooths down those wiry hairs and my scalp seems less itchy. I don't have dandruff, no flaking just the itching. It takes me about 2 minutes to wash my hair.

My hair has also been falling out quite a bit in the last few years. There is a noticable bald patch up front. I hide it now by parting my hair on the side instead of down the middle, which I have done my entire life.

You just never know. My hair was so thick, I couldn't put a rubber band around my hair twice, much less three or four times like everybody else in high school. Now I can probably do it 5 or 6 times. It's so thin, especially at the front.

I wet my hair as sood as I get in the shower and put shampoo on it. I use a blue shampoo...I am not picky about brand. Whatever I can find. I lather it up and let it sit while I take my shower. Then I rinse it and towel it dry....or at least to get as much water out as I can. I use a little mousse....no conditioner. (It is usually in the other bathroom ). I takes me about 10 to 15 minutes to shower.... depending on how much my back hurts. I wear my hair short...and I am way overdue for a haircut. I always wash it before I go. I hate having someone else wash my hair. My hair is very thick still and it gets very hot and heavy when I need a haircut. ( I hate haircuts too...and I am not picky on how it is cut. I tell them to cut it short....just don't make me look like a little ol' man. I just want to get in and out as quickly as possible).

In a shower. Once a week. I use Pantene color safe. I have long hair and it takes maybe 2 minutes to wash...conditioner makes it combable...or it tangles.

I used to go to a Japanese salon where they would shampoo it like a massage, taking a lot of time and even covering my eyes with little warm pad. It was delightful.

I wash my hair almost every day. It helps me to wake up. I don't buy super fancy brands, but I do get color safe shampoo and a conditioner which is supposed to enhance brunette hair. I check the smell before buying a new brand because I am very sensitive to perfumes. My husband doesn't pay attention when washing his hair, so we created a system where all shampoo is in a bottle and all conditioner is in a tube. When I travel, in the interest of carrying less, I use a cheap brand called Pert, which is a combination of shampoo and conditioner. It makes my hair feel great, but I don't think it's color safe..

As long as you don't use some *detergent*, shampoo is just soap. (In junior high I did know a girl with thick and oily hair who claimed to use Tide!) I try to find something without the 'foaming' ingredient -- name escapes me. I've been using DH's Neutrogena T-Sal, although it does have that ingredient. I wash my hair in my bathroom sink.

The conditioner and the styling product matter more, depending on an individual's hair. My once very thick and dark hair (Irish genes) is now 30% thinner, and it's grey with white around my face. I stopped coloring during Covid. I get compliments on my hair. Who knew?

My conditioner is cheap Suave -- claims keratin. Like Lily, I use the "It's a 10!" leave-in for styling; I think of it as 'hair starch'. I 'do' my hair every 4/5 days, using a combination dryer/ brush roller. It's much faster with thinner hair, but my arms and shoulders don't enjoy the effort.

My stylist -- of a dozen years -- wets my hair before cutting it. She's an excellent stylist, but the salon no longer employs a 'shampoo girl'. I always thought that having one allowed the stylists to do more 'heads'.

I think many shampoo 'girls' work for tips. I remember my stylist of 30 years ago rolling his eyes when old ladies in for their weekly 'do' would make a performance of pressing a QUARTER on the salon's shampoo girl -- and making it up to her out of his pocket.

Shampoo aside, I'm curious about what "floof" means. I've seen it in a number of KT thread titles, but have never figured it out.

I think it means nothing earth-shattering, nothing heavy, just light and frothy (like shampoo lather lol)

Every year I forget that this is NOT the time of year to use fruity smelling shampoos, which I enjoy. Gnat attack every time I go outside!!! Its improving my karate skills but is still annoying.....

I think most shampoos are made from the same shampoo bases. Basic, cream shampoo, dandruff, baby no tears, or Castile soap. A few drops of oil, vitamins, color, fragrance or what have you is added to the base shampoo, put it in a pretty bottle and the price goes up.

Citric acid makes it a clarifying shampoo for oily hair etc.

So I buy the cheap one.

I run/hike 6 out of 7 mornings and usually wear a hat so I do wash my hair every morning. I do it in the shower - quick shampoo, conditioner which I leave as I wash myself, rinse out and done.

I towel wrap my hair while I'm dressing etc and then leave it to slightly air dry while I do a couple of little things and then do a quick styling with a round brush and warm (not hot) dryer.

I use suave for color treated hair. Never a conditioner. I'll use mousse sometimes. Lately I've been letting it air dry almost completely unless I am leaving the house.

My hair is very thick (a family trait). I shampoo and condition every second day and I don't worry about the brands. A shampooing staff person washes my hair when I visit the salon which I love, for the tlc and for the scalp massage. I'm thoroughly relaxed when I leave!

My salon’s shampoo girl uses a Heeta scalp brush.

OOh, it feels so good. Then there’s the Fuller Brush scalp brush. I used to use it when i was a kid, then it seemed ”uncool” as I became an adolescent.

The one I recently cleaned out of a drawer at my parents’ is that mid-century mint green.

Even though the Heeta feels so good when someone else does it, I wonder if something like the Fuller is easier to use on your own?
