maple placement dilema
Comments (29)The poster has referred to this area as 'wet'.........it isn't my assumption, just because it's a swale. Judging by the water around the base of the maple tree......., I'm also assuming there may be percolation problems on her lot. No......magnolias are NOT squish plants, if you mean are they able to tolerate wet feet. They do like moist soil, but that's not a deterrent to ground aeration. Poorly draining clay soils are. I have a small magnolia collection, and almost gave up on them until I found how to site them on Ohio Clay soils and that means they're all (other than my grandiflora and sweet bay) on slopes where the water soaked into the soil has a chance to move downhill by gravity...... and they're thriving. It would be one of my last choices for this location if there is any question of drainage. BTW, magnolias have unusual root systems, and a good deal of the roots on a cultivar like yours lay in the upper foot near the surface. They are considered top-rooting trees. The redbud the 'hardscape' contractor recommended is also not tolerant of poor drainage situations. He planted the maples in such a way he considered the drainage to be suspect, then he recomends trees one should not plant such areas? As a nurseryman, I deferred from making hardscape recommendations........it was not my bag if you get my drift....See Morerefrigerator water line placement
Comments (1)The line can run on the interior side of an exterior wall, behind cabinets. It can also be run through the wall, provided adequate insulation is behind it and it is protected from puncture damage from the interior....See MorePlacement Questions....Double Oven and Refrigerator (any issues?)
Comments (3)Love it! We are designing a kosher kitchen as well, and it definitely adds complexity. Can you put the dishwasher to the left of the corner sink, ie between the cooktop and sink? If you're concerned about the visual impact, you can get a panel-ready dishwasher which will blend in with the cabinetry (that's what I'm doing to make things look symmetrical). In terms of landing space, how far is it to the opposite wall? One more thought--the corner sink area does look tight to me, so you could consider moving the sink to the far wall (or doing a large double sink), but you may be avoiding that so that you can have true meat and dairy areas....See MorePlease help! Refrigerator placement????
Comments (13)@MinnesotaMary So the triple switch is two outdoor lights over the deck and the fixture over our dining table. Moving the switch to the right of the fridge might be a great solution. Other than that, the left fridge panel can be 2 inches from the switchplate. With that nudge over, a 33 inch sink basin instead of 36 plus 3 inches of former dead space, I will squeeze a 9-inch cabinet to the right of the fridge. Our cabinet designer has tried to talk me out of nudging the fridge over because she thinks it's too close to the sliders. BTW-- from the left fo the sliders to the wood top is 10 inches. Once the panel is up on the right side of the sliders, we'll have 8.5 inches to the trim. That 1.5 inch difference won't be noticeable at all--at least I hope so! Thanks again!! I will keep you posted....See Morechispa
