Outdoor lighting

It's time for a refresh! The builder grade fixtures were ugly brass. I replaced them but it was 15 years ago now. I'm in the mood for something new for these exterior lights! My house is a grey-green. It looks grey in the picture, but it's a color called Grotto which has a green tone to it. Trim is cream and darker/forest green. There are three lights: one on either side of the garage and one up by the front door.

Seeking suggestions from all of you! I need new eyes on this!

I looked through pages and pages and I'm sort of liking these. Plus they come in three sizes. We were thinking the 14 1/2" high x 7 1/2" wide for the garage sides, then the smaller 11" one by the front door. Concerns are: Is 14.5" too big for the garage sides? And I'm a little concerned about how far they extend from the wall. 8 3/4" from the wall.

Look for fixture that point up rather than down, the junction boxes are low, usually the fixtures will have better placement when the weight of the fixture is up. The other issue you will face is the mounting plate size, and making sure it can lay flush to the siding. Not sure what you are having trouble with I just googled up and down light outdoor lighting and dozens popped up. this is 3 BTW outdoor lighting is for 3 purpses to light the way to your home and also to highlight features and keep burglers away from the nicely lit areas.

Hello Ahreno, You mentioned that budget is an issue (as it is for most of us). Is there a reason that you want to have so many pairs of lights? Maybe in some places a single light is enough and would allow you to save some money. Many companies offer collections so you can purchase larger or smaller lights based on the location. The two styles of lights you suggest look very contemporary. Will this contemporary look be the best for your home’s style, or might a transitional style work and not look dated in 10 years? Be sure to think about where switches will be placed. Will you need to cross an outdoor space to get from the garage into the house? If so, be sure you have a switch at both the garage and inside the back door. Useful options for lighting is motion sensors and dusk to dawn settings so you can set and forget turning them on and off daily. This is especially nice if you want to light the front and maybe a rear entrance to the property. Good luck - all the decisions can be overwhelming, and the choices too!

If you have any problems with the installed solar panels, it makes sense to contact the installer company. Overall, there are many great companies that provide solar panels for home with installation and at affordable prices. For me, this is an opportunity to use electricity, take care of the environment and at the same time save money.

Outdoor lighting should follow Dark Sky to illuminate only the areas that need to be lit and only the degree of illumination needed. Lights that shine upward or outward such as those shown above should never be used; you want to illuminate the path along the house, not the eaves, the wall, or the neighbors' yards. Thanks! I was hoping you might respond since I've seen your very helpful posts on other threads. I never look at the up-pointing ones! I will go back to the websites and try to look at some of those now. The one by the door is pretty high up and I dont know if up-pointing one will work there. But maybe I can find something that complements the others.

Wow, finding up lights is significantly more difficult. Pages and pages of down ones, hardly any up. Do you happen to know the one at the top of your pics? That's the one I like best.

this one comes in different sizes: 15", 12" and 10" which is handy since the one that goes by the front door will probably be better if it's smaller. How large do you think I can go on the garage ones? I think 15" is too big. So maybe the 12?

I think by the front door it can point down, NBD, 15 is not that larger really. Have you measured whats already there b/c honestly they could stand to be double that. You can also cut the size out of cardboard and stick it up there.
