Casement window in shower w/o screen - does water pool?

Claire
last year

Hi All,

We are redoing our bathroom and moving the shower against the wall, which will result in a window inside the shower. We are looking at a fiberglass casement window (tempered, obscured glass) and have been assured that it is wet rated for use inside a shower. We are not planning to use the screen, even though it comes with one, which means that the "ridge" that the screen is normally placed into (on the inside of the window b/c it is a casement) will be empty and we are worried that it will pool water from the shower. Does anyone have experience with this? If water that gets into that ridge can drain either inside or outside it will be fine, but no one can promise us that it can.

Casement windows are generally recommended for showers, so I don't know why I can't find information about this. If anyone has experience with a casement window inside the shower not using a screen - and whether water collects in it or not, I would be very interested in hearing about it!

Thank you!
