I used to for family events. But I haven't in probably ten or more years. They were replaced by new favorites, and no one has requested them since I stopped making them. They are delicious.

Yes, we love them. We have a grandson that is totally allergic to any kind of dairy, so can't make them for family dinners, which is when we had them. i am trying to cut all my recipes down to stuff for two.

They are always requested when my husband goes on his annual fishing trip with the guys. Four of them go for 5 nights, so each brings a main for dinner one night (mostly made by the wives) and they each bring an appy for one night. (The last night they eat at a local pub, as that is their pack up night.) I sent the sausage balls once and DH's friends always ask him "are you bringing the sausage balls?" Same with the dinner we provide. Has to be stromboli. I make two and bake them and freeze them then DH heats them up on the BBQ.

They taste like a "Dutch pig in the blanket". Our Pig in a blanket is made differently than other parts of the US. It is sausage and pastry.

No, but was watching a Youtuber the other day, who is from England, now retired and living frugally in France. She made a braided sausage pastry thing and it looked interesting. Interesting enough that I may try it one day. A lot of her meals don't sound/look too appetizing, but I guess it's what you are used to eating. Most people think I eat weird stuff.

I make them often, in fact I have some in the freezer now.. They freeze beautifilky uncooked (freeze them on a cookie sheet and ince frozen just bag them). There are lots of variations — different flavored sausages and cheese (maple sausage, sharp white cheese and grated apple is very good or for a spicy treat use Chorizo)..

This is a new thing I haven’t had or heard of. Meat balls with some sausage meat or flavoring, yes, as for pasta or as an appetizer. Some may include bread crumbs but not flour or cheese. We buy them frozen.

Yes, DH makes them and his are always requested. Very popular during football season or holidays in winter. Just don’t over-cook so that they are too dry. Some like the hot sausage and some like mild. We sometimes add a few sprinkles of red pepper flakes to the mild sausage to get somewhere in between. It’s fun to experiment to get them as you like.

The baking process cooks the sausage. They are much better cooked all together, not with pre-cooking the sausage.

I never cooked the sausage first. Hot country sausage, not Italian, you can use mild sausage. I used mild cheddar cheese, some use sharp. Don't use the pregrated, it has a filler that makes it clump.

Well, I had to go out today to pick up some cooking oil to make a cake. I only have olive oil and was afraid it would make it taste weird. While there I also picked up some sausage. I usually only like Jimmy Dean but was at Save A Lot so got one of their brands that was mild. One day this week I'm going to make a sausage roll/pastry thing.

I rarely eat sausage but I'd love to try a sausage ball.
