Spring Forward! Making the Most of Evening Sunlight
Embrace the extra hour of sun that daylight saving time brings
Daylight saving time starts this weekend, meaning that we've got to remember to set our clocks forward on Sunday and, regrettably, lose an hour of sweet, sweet sleep. But let's focus on the positive, shall we? The good news is we'll gain an hour of light in the evening. Time to bask in this silver lining and brainstorm ways to make the most of each extra moment of sun. Here are a few to get the ball rolling ...
Take a seat outside. Even if it's just for a few minutes after work, a moment spent outdoors is a relaxing way to wind down the day.
A row of matching rockers beckons for casual conversation and contemplation.
If the weather's warm enough, bring some reading out and sit awhile.
Entertain after work. Bring back cocktail hour with a postwork sip outdoors. And since cleanup is so easy outside (just bust out the hose), the more the merrier.
Catch up with neighbors on a communal rooftop deck. Bring some drinks and you instantly become everyone's favorite in the building.
Eat al fresco. Take your dinner outside to soak in the waning sunlight. It's about time you got that patio set cleaned and out of storage, right?
Go for grand style with a chandelier and seating for 10 ...
... or keep it relaxed and a deux. The pool will have to wait, but the dining area is ready for its first spin of the season.
Enjoy a fire. OK, so maybe the weather hasn't turned warm yet where you are. If that's the case, throw a log on the fire and pretend.
If you nestle up close enough, it might just feel like spring is fully here.
Take a dip. It's probably too cold to hop in the pool, but it may have warmed up enough that you can now endure a swimsuited dash outside into a hot tub. Now that there's light the sky, you won't stub your toe on a blind run out there. And oh, yeah, you might be greeted with a fantastic view.
