Remodeling Design Dilemma Bathrooms

Mixing what color faucets with polished brass/brass hardware

I am redoing a bathroom with a nautical flare. My vanity is blue with brushed brass knobs and I'm looing at some refurbished brass ship lamps for sconces. I'll probably have a wood or rope accented mirror. Attached is a picture of the vanity (from website, not mine) and potential sconces. The sconce I like best is the two tone brass but there is also one with mixed metals that I don't like nearly as much! My shower will have a white subway tile. My walls will be white ship lap with white or light gray walls. Do I have to use brass faucets and shower system? What else could work well?

Betsy, there's nautical style and then if you're not careful it will get kitschy.

A round mirror is great. The rope is taking it too far.

Those sconces do not put out a great quality of light and I would avoid them.

I would replace it with brass so it matches or is closely coordinated. If I were a potential buyer I would wonder if the non-matching faucets were a quick fix. I think this is one of those situations where keeping the finishes the same is more important.

I'm doing brass pendants with chrome knobs and pulls. I love the current gold trend with the white kitchens and how it warms it up, but I know in my hearts of hearts I've always been a silver person so I'm putting the trend in something that will be easier to swap out in the future. If you love the brass hardware definitely go for it, but maybe get it all in a standard size so you can swap it out years from now if you tire of it and haven't moved.

@Kristin S, not sure but I can certainly ask. I really need a middle ground between the Polished Brass and Satin Nickel. The Polished Brass seems too gold for me and the satinnickel slightly too muted. Hard to tell but is the Top Bronze kind of in between? Going to go online and see the difference. At the end of the day, the pulls are so subtle so maybe I should stop belabouring on this point and I guess I could always just change them out after the fact (although my husband would kill me!!) ... LOL. Thanks!!

Our house is 'traditional'. I used polished brass hardware throughout, including kitchen pulls and knobs. They still look great 20 years on, as do the Baldwin Edinburgh lifetime brass door levers (interior and exterior). All floors are dark hardwood, including kitchen. Cabinets are cream; green granite counters.

I would go with brass fixtures, if you are keeping the brass knobs.

We don't think you have to do brass hardware, but it might make your theme look more uniform. We might recommend using a round mirror and skipping the shiplap and doing a nice nautical wallpaper. Below are two designs of ours in which might aid you further:
