Dayglosoright - it is called 'Albany' Quartzite at our local supplier. It is very translucent with green and brown veins. I'm not sure if it is a standard color and I can't seem to find it online, but I have seen similar stones at our other local suppliers. I think the imperfections in this particular lot worked to our advantage because it was inexpensive for quartzite :). Our fabricator was shocked at the price.

Hi Rebunky. I hope all is well with you. YES, this is a long time coming, but it is finally almost done. It's funny how I agonized over whether to do the island one or two levels, but I am so glad I decided on the lower table. At this point I am just itching to start cooking again and play with my steam oven:) I will definitely post a reveal. The island is Calcatta Macaubas quartzite. Wilson- the doorway is 32" wide and we replaced the original single swing door with 2 narrow doors.

@Kristy Lewis - Kristy, I love how your kitchen turned out. We are about to build, and I just realized our layout is very similar to yours! Any chance you could share how tall your ceilings are and what the dimensions of your kitchen island are? Thanks in advance!

Hello again everyone! I was so appreciative of everyone’s advice and wanted to circle back to provide an update. We decided to take a chance and replace the quartzite- and we are so much happier with the new result. They cut two pieces instead of three and did them in order from one slab (per the plan- pretty clear they were trying to only use two of our three slabs). I will say the one seam does drive me nuts, but thanks to all of you, I know it is necessary. Lucky, thanks so much for the advice about using something to hide a seam.
