Granite or Quartzite Counter"Super White" is actually a Dolomite?
Comments (11)Thanks karin for posting truthful info. Yeah this dealer seemed to know more than other yards. I went to a couple others and saw Super White or similar ones labled as "quartzite" and was told by them that Super White was very strong etc. From the stone yard I got a Dolamite, Quartzite and Granite sample here are results of a glass/ scratch test: I tried a scratch test and the "Super white" Dolamite did not pass the Glass test where you try to scratch a glass bottle. The White Macauba Quartzite easily scratched the glass. A third Granite sample also scratched the glass I then did a scratch test first with a spoon and the Dolamite, Quartzite, granite all passed without getting scratched when I pushed hard on them The final test I did was with a sharp serrated plier. This could not scratch the quartzite, barely scratched the granite and easily scratched the "super white" Dolomite I guess the super white is no good I'll do an acid test later with lemon/ vinegar and stain test with wine....See Morequartzite (white america/fantasy) durability
Comments (6)I have not heard this about quartzite. I have white macabus quartzite and it has not stained or etched in the 7 months we have had it. If lime left a mark it would be an etch and not a stain but it could also be the stone was not sealed and the wet mark may disappear with time. Is it an etch mark ? The best way to determine if the slab you like is durable enough is as bahacca mentioned - get a piece of the stone and test it but make sure they have sealed it for you first....See MoreWhat Color Sink with Sea Pearl Quartzite?
Comments (13)my3dogs - Thx for your input! Love your quartzite. I think that's great you are reusing your sink! No need to buy something else if you like your current one & it's in good shape. I was ready to get the $300 Ikea drop-in farm sink, but my DH really wants an undermount, so I caved...but I can live with either. Thx for the Ebay links. They don't have the 6488 model I want (except for local pick-up in NY); I'll keep checking though. I called Kohler today about getting sample chips; they are backordered on sea salt and cashmere. Both very popular (cashmere the #1 seller at the Fergusons in my area). I'm going to make another round of showroom visits with my cabinet door & photos (don't have a sample of the Sea Pearl but will ask the fabricator again). I can look at the sample chips at the showroom. I did like the dune color online; I will see what that one looks like. BirchPoint - Thank you! You raised the same concerns I have about the cashmere. It is lovely on its own, but not sure in combination with the other elements in my kitchen. My DH agrees with you; the sink will be here for many years, and the extra money will be worth it if it's "the one" for our kitchen. lmgch - Good to know! The fact that you selected the sea salt Whitehaven with Sea Pearl raises my comfort level with that color. It is lovely, and I like the tiny speckles in it. The "sea" in both the quartzite and sink color names may be a sign. :) Thx!...See MoreBacksplash for Sea Pearl Quartzite - Help!!
Comments (19)lmgch - I remember your kitchen; so beautiful! Your backsplash is lovely. I recall it's from Porcelanosa, correct? I considered getting a sample when you posted your reveal, but we have no Porcelanosa dealers in my state. I do like that there is a pattern in yours; it adds a nice touch. herbflavor - I understand what you're saying. Agree that we need something that pulls it all together. My concern about mosaics is that they are trendy (of course, the same could be said about white subways with gray grout). eam44 - I loved the Fireclay Hydrangea immediately. My search actually began with glass and glass mosaics. The Sea Pearl evokes feelings of coastal, so I thought glass might work. I almost went with the green glass mosaic below, then thought glass in general would be too trendy. I want something unique (I know...subways are not!) that is neutral enough to not steal the show from the Sea Pearl. I had ruled these out (marble - too bathroomy?, glass - too trendy?)...maybe I should revisit. So unsure!!...See MoreKristy Lewis
