This is sea salt. Hard to see the grainy specks in the photo, however.

This is cashmere. I love it. But is there too much brown in it? Is there too much contrast with the Sea Pearl quartzite? Would it work with any color appliances?

I vote for Sea Salt. I've seen it in person and its nice! The cashmere does not seem right to me with your soapstone or cabinets. Sea Salt is a hair softer than White. It is expensive, but it is a lifetime fixture and I think that makes it justifiable.

I can't advise on the color, but I looked at these sinks online and saw other colors that may blend in more with your counter top. I then went to eBay where I see models in several colors. I don't know the style number you are interested in, but you may find it at the eBay page linked below, cheaper and with free shipping.

This will surprise many, but I am doing a kitchen minor refresh, and kept my - brace yourself - 24 year old over mount Swanstone sink. It looks like the day I bought it, I like its depth, and my counter top was ready so quickly that I didn't have time to get a new sink in. They still make my sink, and since this is just a refresh, I saw no need to change it out. I bought Fantasy Brown quartzite. It has tans, greens, and a few dark areas in it.

If I were you, I'd try to get samples of other colors of the Kohler sinks, and try them next to your stone. I actually did that with Swanstone, and didn't find any that I liked as much as my 'old' dark one. I DO like the Cashmere above, but that isn't against your stone. Did you see the Dune color? If the model you are buying is 6847, they have it at this link in several colors, including Cashmere for $1071.53.

my3dogs - Thx for your input! Love your quartzite. I think that's great you are reusing your sink! No need to buy something else if you like your current one & it's in good shape. I was ready to get the $300 Ikea drop-in farm sink, but my DH really wants an undermount, so I caved...but I can live with either. Thx for the Ebay links. They don't have the 6488 model I want (except for local pick-up in NY); I'll keep checking though. I called Kohler today about getting sample chips; they are backordered on sea salt and cashmere. Both very popular (cashmere the #1 seller at the Fergusons in my area). I'm going to make another round of showroom visits with my cabinet door & photos (don't have a sample of the Sea Pearl but will ask the fabricator again). I can look at the sample chips at the showroom. I did like the dune color online; I will see what that one looks like.

BirchPoint - Thank you! You raised the same concerns I have about the cashmere. It is lovely on its own, but not sure in combination with the other elements in my kitchen. My DH agrees with you; the sink will be here for many years, and the extra money will be worth it if it's "the one" for our kitchen.

lmgch - Good to know! The fact that you selected the sea salt Whitehaven with Sea Pearl raises my comfort level with that color. It is lovely, and I like the tiny speckles in it. The "sea" in both the quartzite and sink color names may be a sign. :) Thx!

wags848: It seems to me that you should keep your sink color "the same" / very similar to some other significant items in the kitchen (appliances, perhaps, or confirmed new appliances), or if you go with "color", to keep it very soft to "match" or blend with one of the shades in your quartzite top. I think that lovely Cashmere is too strong for the quartzite colors, as it also is not closely related to your cabinets, and b/c it does not tie back into your island soapstone in any way. I would look to increase the cohesiveness of your choices, and I think the Cashmere doesn't do that. If there are white veins in the soapstone, to me, that indicates that you should be using some kind of white, or another existing prominent color in your kitchen, not adding another standout color. Hope I haven't overstated things... Good luck with your choices!

kitchengirl - Well put advice! That makes so much sense. I love the cashmere, and it seems somewhat "neutral" to me, but in context with the other items in our kitchen, it's probably not the best choice. With different materials for the island and perimeter countertops, it's probably even more important to limit the colors. Our soapstone is green-based, no white in it. Originally I wanted a soapstone sink. However, the fabricators were not comfortable making one, and the price was high (but compared to the Whitehaven sea salt I'm now considering, it's less expensive!).

I'm leaning toward the sea salt. It is a soft white that seems like it would blend more with the quartzite and won't clash with the soapstone. But I'll check out some other color options before pulling the trigger.

I would take the white samples and see which one matches the white ice appliances. If your appliances are a bright white and the sink is not they might clash also. Just a thought.

diymom79 - Good point! Whites are really tough...so many variations. Hoping I can find the white ice appliances; the store that had them is now out of business. I will hunt. Thanks for your input!
