Comments (66)Flevy, I am the b*tch too. How dare you make my child learn? Usually they change their minds after they start the next grade. They realize that they learned a lot from me. One girl said to me this year that this year was the first year she has retained anything. Sept actually said in staff meeting to only teach math and reading...nothing else. I told school board press in Dec that I was leaving in may. This was my first year there since we moved south. I also told supt that I refused to only teach math and reading. So I am not a team player. My fifth graders had five tests. Flevy,, I have been saying it for years. We are not always sending our brightest students to college. Some get grants to go and put little effort out. Why should they? They aren't paying for it. That is a beautiful kitchen. Love the cool green tile, window light fixtures, and glass doors. Comments (9)Too many variables here to give you a figure. To give you some idea: when we remodeled our kitchen in the upper midwest the estimated prices for the same granite varied 20%-40% depending upon: 1) the fabricator we chose (we went with an independent fabricator) 2) the stone yard we purchased our granite from (even similar slabs vary from yard to yard depending upon how many slabs they have, their estimate of the market demand for the particular slab, how long they have had the slab(s) in stock etc.... 3) the number of cuts (for sinks, cook top, etc...) 4) the type of edge (ogee, eased etc...) 5) whether the fabricator or stone yard was willing to sell us just the material we needed (and keep the remnants for vanities etc...) or whether we had to buy whole slabs All of the above factors (and probably others we didn't encounter) can greatly affect the final price of a stone counter top -- just in our area. If you take into account the widely divergent prices based on region, then it truly becomes a guessing game. Of course, the rarer the stone, the more expensive irrespective of region or any other factor. Uba Tuba, "tan brown' etc... are everywhere and thus tend to be among the most affordable choices. Hope this helps. I recommend you scout out some stone yards in your area to get a clearer idea of costs. Comments (156)I didn't want any shine, but that is a beautiful tile. First picture shows gray green and second shows gray blue and green on my monitor. I can't decide whether to go with light tiles that blend in or with some color like the crackle tiles. I like the idea of a darker grout that won't show stains as much as a white grout. Sealed of course. I guess I will be doing a road trip next week. I hate driving 2 hours just to pick up tile samples, them driving 2 hours back home. Comments (23)Wow, Cabinet painter coming out this friday. We are going white on all cabinets except the island which will be navy blue. Hopefully to match the backsplash. Will post before and after photo's when complete. Currently they are a dark brown. Went with some large navy blue arabesque tiles with white grout on backsplash....See Moresomersetlass

8 years agoit's still not 100% complete and my phone quality photos aren't so great, but the stone looks lovely, IMO. and we literally used just about every last inch of our slabs ;)
