I have no idea why the tulip table at all. Just because the house is MCM does not mean every item in it needs to be that. I love tulip dining tables but not the coffee tables . You have a large space and IMO those chairs are not in the right scale but I do need to know thw actual size of the room since distorted pics are not good This is my 1956 MCM ranch LR

This is 15 a 25 and I did not feel the need for small scaled furniture but I did do 2seating areas and we now have a round coffee table in the space with the chairs.

Tulip table because we fell in love with them. Functional and allows movement around the table, elegant single post vs. four legs. 14 ft wide actually is a small space to plan around and include a throughway into kitchen. The window wall to the right also includes our door to the backyard. Room doesn't lend itself to multiple seating areas, nor would I want that because we entertain quite a bit. Wanted the open kitchen into family room for a very inclusive feel. Also have an upholstered swivel chair and a Herman Miller slatted bench that will go in the room.

Are you doing a genuine Saarinen table? Because many tops are available. The lacquered top will not be as durable as a marble one. https://www.knoll.com/product/saarinen-coffee-table?section=design

"Because I like it" is a pretty good reason.

Of those two choices, I would do the marble.

I would suggest marble rather than lacquer for the family room.

My friend has a kitchen table where she used leftover marble from her slabs on a "tulip" base. It has gotten lots of abuse and still looks fine.

Lacquer is more much delicate just as wood is more delicate than glass or stone surfaces.

I spent a long time looking for the "perfect" coffee table. My aesthetic question would be why don't you want some element of contrast in the room. The wood MCM style tables have elegant lines and might be a bit of visual interest in all that white and pale.

Probably not doing genuine Saarinen. Interior Icons offers ones that are much more affordable, beautiful and have received loads of good reviews. Limited options though compared to the genuine ones. Wanted white on white though so that's fine with us.

I am not sure what you mean by limited options. Get a base and then get the "top" you want and have a fabricator make it to your exact specifications. You aren't limited to the "off the rack" with this table as the bases are widely available.

Just meant that Interior Icons has limited options. Could look at making our own with a base and custom top. So many moving parts in this renovation that getting several pieces "off the shelf" is helpful.

Off the shelf is good. In the future after your brother-in-law sits on it and breaks it you can get a custom top. :)

The limited options are the classic ones and the look you want. Win-win.
