San Pedro cactus

Hi, I'm in coastal So California, zone 10b-11a.

I have some San Pedro cactus in my garden. Against a west facing wall the cactus (might be san pedro) has some white layer or coating on it. Compare to the new growth. Should I wipe it down? Maybe with water?

Another against a south facing wall has "stems" that are yellow. I know it is on the drip line of my roof but I would think it would dry out over the summer. Also the other pipes are not yellow and they are in the same location. What's going on?

Thanks for the help!
