Comments (16)Steph, if you have issues with plumbing, is it the supply water failing? Is it the sewer line failing? Just which side of your system is not dependable? Why I ask, have you ever thought about a COMPOSTING TOILET? I bet it would work in your situation VERY well. I'm told that if I want one, to go ahead and get it for my garage redo, but don't tell anyone. A lot of communities object to having them around. Not being that familiar with their operation, I could not say...but I'm always interested in doing something out of step with the ordinary, maybe more eco-friendly, especially water saving. In your case, water is as precious as gold. In my case, I'm loving my new "future" master suite as soon as I can take a bath in the clawfoot tub. And hang my clothes in the new walk in closet. My future mini project is to add a window seat and tall cabs either side of it, in the dining room. LOTS of places to put kitchen stuff then, and file drawers under the seat too. This will make the dining room more functional. After that gets done, I think we'll be looking at a kitchen redo. Then the garage redo. Might contract for both of those jobs at one time, with the contractor who is doing such a good job on our tub/closet bumpout now. My DH trusts his work from all the pictures I've sent him as work progresses....See MoreFeatures You Wish Your Home Had
Comments (12)This was our first house, before kids. We live much differently before and after kids. We're in Phoenix and made the mistake of buying an east/west facing house -- big no-no here as the west side of the house is always 15 degrees hotter than the rest of the house. We just bought a new house -- north/south facing. Thankfully, the family room and backyard, where we spend the most time, is on the north side and gets the least amount of sun and heat. This one also has a formal living room and separate family room. The formal living is now wasted space because all the kids toys are in the family room. I need to keep an eye on the kids, so we're always in there too. During holidays, all the grandparents want to be in there too, to play with all the kids. My formal living room is now pointless and my family room is crowded. In the new house, we looked for one huge family room where all the kids and relatives can comfortably be all at the same time, toys and all! In my current house, the kitchen is a main thoroughfare. You HAVE to walk through it to get to/from main living areas. This becomes annoying and crowded during the holidays and it gets annoying having kiddos underfoot while I'm trying to make dinner. I have no way of keep them out of the kitchen. So our new house has the kitchen off to the side of the family room. I still have view of kids, can still chat with family, but I can barracade everyone out of my way! LOL And lastly, we wanted all the main living areas to have good views of each other and good views of the backyard. I'd like to be able to keep an eye on the kids from the areas I spend most of my time. I also want to be able to let them play outside in the yard in 110+ degree heat, if they really want, without going outside myself! I can easily sit in the family room with my ice cold lemonade and watch them through the window!...See MoreAnother finish doesn't have a home yet.
Comments (13)Fran, your quilt is absolutely gorgeous. My version used scrap strings, and while I really liked mine, your version with the sumptuous Fasset fabrics is a real stunner. I love your binding too. Don’t you love how we get inspiration from others on this forum? I’ve gotten so many ideas and have learned so much from our generous members. Thank you, all....See MoreDoes your house HAVE to have something to feel "right?"
Comments (40)When my husband's job moved to another state and him with it, I stayed behind (it was 400 miles) to get ready to sell and move. He went house hunting in the new town all by himself. I told him that the new home must have a garbage disposal, a window over the kitchen sink and a big window with a view from the kitchen table. Other than those 3 things, I could make do with whatever house he picked out. The day we moved in was the first time I saw my new home. It had the disposal, and a window over the sink, but it was too high for short me to see anything out of it but the tops of trees. And there was a window with a view from the table, but the dog couldn't see out of it. Within 2 months those windows were changed to accommodate both me and the dog. I loved that house, DH did a great job house hunting on his own....See Moreseagrass_gw Cape Cod
