Some Ozarks Fall Color: VERY Picture Heavy
Comments (44)My turn... with Ark's blessing I'm going to post some fall pics taken in Fort Smith yesterday. Unfortunately, the trees peaked 2-3 days before I could get the camera out and most trees lost a LOT of color, especially the sugar maples. Some pics were taken at my house, some on the side of the road and some just off the road in town. Let's start with sugar maple pics: Acer saccharum By jp_42_82 at 2011-11-10 By jp_42_82 at 2011-11-10 By jp_42_82 at 2011-11-10 By jp_42_82 at 2011-11-10 By jp_42_82 at 2011-11-10 By jp_42_82 at 2011-11-10 By jp_42_82 at 2011-11-10 By jp_42_82 at 2011-11-10 By jp_42_82 at 2011-11-10 By jp_42_82 at 2011-11-10 By jp_42_82 at 2011-11-10 By jp_42_82 at 2011-11-10 Liriodendron tulipifera By jp_42_82 at 2011-11-10 By jp_42_82 at 2011-11-10 By jp_42_82 at 2011-11-10 Prunus spp By jp_42_82 at 2011-11-10 By jp_42_82 at 2011-11-10 By jp_42_82 at 2011-11-10 By jp_42_82 at 2011-11-10 By jp_42_82 at 2011-11-10 The camera really did not do justice to the last two pics above. Comments (25)I was born after WWII but lived in a glorious but quite remote place in England. We had no car, no bathroom or hot water, no power supply and only propane gas lighting in 2 rooms, candles for the rest. We eventually had a propane gas 2 burner stove that supplemented cooking on the open fire and in the oven heated by the fire. We had dripping, rather than running, water. No telephone or TV of course! The first TV I ever saw was built by my uncle. There was one channel that broadcast only a few hours each day. With no heating other than open fires the house would be pretty cold in winter. My brother used to dare me to put my bare foot on the frosty windows so that we could look out on the winter wonderland! Baths were taken across the yard in a 'wash house' (where laundry was done). Water was heated by burning logs in a grate beneath a vat-like 'copper'. My mother made the wash house cozy with rugs on the stone floors and curtains at the windows. The bath was tin and placed on the floor. I remember our glowing faces after all that warmth and then a quick run in bathrobes and slippers through the deep snow in the yard. My father made me some snow shoes so that I could get to school though the deep snow drifts. School until I was eleven years old was about 2 miles from home. Summers were blissfully spent catching rabbits (by stalking) and trout (by tickling) though never harming them, and picnics. I wandered at will with no thought of danger and spent day after day helping our farmer neighbor with his animals or crops. My mother could see us from our windows, the old farmer and his little buddy, side by side on his tractor as he plowed, singing at the tops of our voices! Conditions were hard, the life was wonderful. Our family was close and laughter and conversation were endless. We were never bored, our home was filled with books and the outdoors provided more entertainment than we ever had time for! Happy days!...See MoreVery. Late. Reveal. Small, rustic, white oak kitchen. Pic Heavy
Comments (137)So I'm a year late in commenting but SO happy I got to see this amazing kitchen, thanks to the "best reveals" thread. I followed this with interest and worried a little, you seemed so ambitious in including a gazillion good ideas and I wasn't sure it would lead to a cohesive, attractive result. It is a stunning kitchen, full of beauty and functionality but it is more than that, you've infused it with depth and soul. Congratulations!...See MoreVery Cool Wood Storage for Your Fireplace!
Comments (9)That's real nice awm...I'm looking to make a wood one for our firewood. We're currently working on a tray for our DR table, and plan on making a wood box for the hearth for our next project. I want something plain like a box with slats... however, I do want it to be plain and fancy too :) Anyone have any ideas? I also thought if it was made out of slats -- I could do block lettering on the box, with something clever on it like ... Here within lies a mighty tree that was once an acorn, it escaped a squirrel and look at it now! ( my hubby thought that one up) :) I'll have to work on that cute saying a bit more... A mighty tree that was once an acorn, escaped a squirrel, and now warms our heart and hearth. :)...See More- 2 years agolast modified: 2 years ago
